“You two...”

She hesitated to get down on her elbows and crawl there or hop with one leg. Neither option was very gracious and she knew the Tiger was definitely staring at her.

“Need help?” he chuckled.

Eden rolled her eyes. Of course, he had to make fun of her.

“I’m fine,” she mumbled.

“Eden.”

She looked back, wondering why he was calling her, but just as she did Dante’s lips greeted her.

It was so sudden. Eden’s strength left her arms, almost falling over, until Dante grabbed her confidently. He hadn’t even noticed but he was holding her arm and keeping her from falling, doing all that while still kissing her. Eden was still so confused, she could only take it and blush.

That kiss was short but Dante pulled back slowly with that horrible smirk on his face. That man was a devil... Eden ignored him and quickly got out of his grip to grab her leg. It was only one or two hops away and she didn’t want to spend more time thinking. Thinking wasn’t doing her any good in this situation.

“Do you like coffee?”

Eden frowned in his direction. Dante had already left the bed and was walking away. He really was half-naked and casually walking around... She swallowed her saliva once more and prayed that he wouldn’t look back while she threw herself onto her other leg. Eden quickly took it back from the excited pups and put her leg back on, stretching right away with a grimace. Putting them back on was always a bit of a weird conflict between discomfort and relief.

Now that she was up, Eden felt a bit awkward. She entertained the pups for a little while, glancing Dante’s way every so often. The suite they had given her didn’t have a full kitchen but there was a little corner with a kettle, some mugs, and apparently a little cupboard that contained coffee. Ignoring the fact that she hadn’t answered, Dante poured two cups and walked back to her.

“Thanks...”

Sipping a hot drink in the morning, with a view of the Chicago sunrise, was a unique experience she hadn’t encountered before.

However, it didn’t look like Dante had time to spare. He walked to the bathroom without saying a word. Maybe he wasn’t a morning person, thought Eden. She was, though. Eden walked up to the window and played on the control panel until she was able to open a portion of it to let some air in. She was surprised. Even if she had expected the air to be better in the morning and at this height, she didn’t think it would be that good. She leaned on the window, letting her arms and face enjoy the breeze. There probably wasn’t any wind on the ground because she could barely feel it where she was. Beer and Bullet kept barking at her feet and trying to bite her metallic toes, curious, but Eden just ignored them. She needed five minutes of quiet before resuming her crazy new life.

Dante took his time in the bathroom. She heard the shower running for quite some time before he finally came out. Now clean-shaven and dressed in another Italian suit, he passed through the doorway and put on a different expensive watch. Eden felt a bit silly now that she was the only one left in pajamas.

“I have to go,” he simply said. “I’ll see you later.”

“...Aren’t I supposed to accompany you?” asked Eden, frowning.

“Already can’t bear to be without me?” he smirked, doing his cufflinks.

“I meant as your bodyguard,” she retorted.

“No. Not in here.”

She suddenly remembered him bragging about his building’s security while Dante left without adding a word. Eden was so surprised but what was she expecting? Breakfast together in bed? She’d gone crazy for sure... Silently mad at herself, she sipped her coffee and spent a bit more time at the window.

All of a sudden, she realized that since she was in Dante’s building anyway, she could put her SIN back online.

“Jack?” she called.

“Holy shit, Eden! You’re alive, you little swine! I was so sure those crazy Italian bastards had thrown you into the dang river!”

“Yeah, no... uh... things happened. Are you alright?”

“Alright? I ain’t alright at all but I’m alive! Dang it... Oh, I swear, I’m glad you’re alive, but babe, it’s been a mother fu–... Ugh. I shouldn’t complain but dang... Anyway, where are ya? You could have brought your butt back around if you were alive!”

“Not really, I had... uh...”

Eden frowned. She didn’t know how much she could tell him. She didn’t really care about Dante’s opinion but she also didn’t want to put Jack or one of the girls at risk by saying too much.

“I’m... in the Tiger’s territory,” she finally said.
