“Oh my god, Jordan. You are incredible,” he whispers. “I thought you were a virgin.”

“That was before you, Ty.” I breathe into his ear. “Not anymore.”

For several minutes we lie in silence as he traces wide arching circles on my back with the tips of his fingernails. Every few seconds, his touch sends shivers through me, and I shudder in his arms. He kisses the top of my head, and I turn my face upward to take his lips in mine.

“See why we needed the extra space?” His words are muffled, his mouth in my hair.

“We could’ve made it work,” I argue, “but I’m glad we didn’t.”

“Me too.” His fingers slide to my lower back, circling my hips, then lower. He slides his hands down across my butt, and between my legs from behind.

“Tyson,” I gasp when he slips his fingers inside of me again.

“Do you want me to stop?” His smug tone makes it clear my answer doesn’t matter.

“Never,” I give in, shaking my head.

Jordan

Sunlight streams through the window, nudging at my eyelids until I wake. Tyson’s head is draped over me, his cheek pressed to my bare chest. He’s still asleep, and I admire his long, dark eyelashes, the fullness of his bottom lip, until he cracks one eyelid open.

“Like what you see?” His voice is thick with sleep.

I toss a pillow at him. “I liked it better when it couldn’t talk.”

“Liar.” He moves his head to kiss me, tracing his fingers along my belly below my belly button. “How much time do we have?”

Time.Shit.I bolt upright, grabbing my phone off the nightstand. Nine-thirty.

“No no no,” I moan. “My exam!”

Tyson’s eyes grow wide. He sits up in the bed, tossing the blanket off. “Shit. I’ll give you a ride.”

“It was at nine.” I sit down on the edge of the bed and put my head in my hands, fighting the urge to cry. “How could I be so stupid? Why didn’t I set an alarm?”

“It’s only a half-hour past. Maybe if we show up, the professor will let you in late. You’re an amazing student, I’m sure they’ll understand.”

He doesn’t get it. And he definitely doesnotknow Doctor Sellers. “She’ll never let me in late.”

“Let’s just try. If you don’t try, then there’s definitely no way. Right?” He’s dressed, running his fingers through his hair to smooth it, and the calm in his voice is enough to make the tears spill down my cheeks.

“Please, Tyson, just leave.” My voice is thin and quiet.

Tyson freezes, body tense. From the corner of my eye, I watch him flex his hands open, then closed, before shoving them into his pockets.

“Are you sure?” he asks.

I nod, unable to speak or look at him. He pauses in the doorway, maybe hoping I’ll call him back. I don’t look at him. Instead, I get up and draw the curtains shut, unable to face the world. I sit back on the bed and bury my face in my hands and cry until long after the echo of Tyson closing the front door has faded.

Chapter 29

Jordan

Theroomisdark.I never opened the curtains, never let the midday sun inside my apartment. A big fat zero. That’s what I am. And it’s the grade I’ll deserve on my neurology exam. Maybe Tyson was right and I should have slinked into the class with my tail between my legs, begging Doctor Sellers’s forgiveness for my tardiness. But I couldn’t bring myself to face her. And what excuse could I even give? ‘Sorry I’m late, I overslept because my boyfriend and I stayed up all night having incredible sex?’ No, I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t fly.

Boyfriend.Wait. What?

After he left, I took the longest, hottest shower in the history of humanity, until the water ran cold and there were no tears left to cry. My next class isn’t until eleven, so I take my time getting ready, letting myself wallow in a daze, staring into my coffee mug.
