She doesn’t realize I’mlettingher.

Dani has light hands and impressively nimble fingers, but it was my idea to swipe her agent’s hidden camera in the first place. I knew she couldn’t have been far. If this is her operation, she would have been nearby monitoring her undercover agent’s every move. It was just a matter of drawing her out. And the only way to do that was to throw her into a panic over missing FBI tech.

I get up first, picking up my phone. The screen is cracked to hell, but it doesn’t matter. Dani bends over and picks up the box she dropped when she rammed right into me like a fucking linebacker. It sounds light. I don’t think there’s anything in it.

“Are you with Amazon?” I ask, feigning ignorance.

Dani’s cheeks flush pink. “Yes, I am.”

“I’ve heard Bezos keeps his workers under tight deadlines, but damn. I’m going to have to get my screen replaced.”

“I’m really sorry. Let me pay for it. It’s the least I can do.”

“No, it’s fine,” I say firmly. “I’d rather you make it up to me in a different way.”

Dani’s mouth falls open. I can tell she wants to say no, but now that I’ve no doubt thrown a wrench in her plans, she’ll probably see this as an opportunity. I know she knows who I am, but she doesn’t know that I know whosheis. Dani needs to keep her cover if she wants any hope of getting to my brothers through me.

Her look of confusion quickly morphs into a bashful, flirtatious smile. “What did you have in mind?”

“Dinner.”

“I think I’m free on Tues—”

“Tonight.”

Dani’s delicate brows knit together into a slight frown. I take in her graceful features. The ID photo Dimitri provided me doesn’t do her justice. She’s enchanting in person, that pretty pout of hers making my stomach flip. I’m not sure why I feel so uneasy in her presence. Probably because I know she’s with the FBI and trying to bust me and my family.

Or maybe because I’ve never met a woman more beautiful.

I push the thoughts from my head. None of that now. I have to apply more pressure if the next phase of my plan is going to work.

“I don’t know,” she says, shifting her weight uncomfortably from foot to foot. “I don’t even know your name. What if you’re a serial killer or something?”

Liar liar, pants on fire.

I chuckle despite myself. I stick my hand out to shake. “Luka Antonov.”

While I considered giving her a fake name, it would only raise flags and tip her off that I’m two steps ahead. I need her to think I’m completely oblivious to her, the operation, and everything in between.

Let the mind games begin.

Tentatively, Dani slips her hand into mind and gives my fingers a light squeeze. I like how soft her palms are, even though I know she’s probably far more deadly than she looks. She’s the head of an FBI intel operation, after all. There’s a good chance Dani could kill me with nothing more than the tip of a ballpoint pen if she wanted.

“Willa Jones,” she lies with ease. Why wouldn’t she? She’s too smart to give away her real name.

Regardless, I squint at her. “You don’t look like a Willa.”

For the briefest millisecond, I can see her panic. She’s cute, wide-eyed, like a doe caught in the headlights. Dani quickly replaces her hesitation with a bright, bubbly laugh. “I don’t know what to tell you. It’s my name.”

I want to laugh. She’s quick on her feet. I like that.

“Give me your number.”

“How about you give meyournumber?” she suggests.

“Don’t you trust me?”

She smiles. “Not even a little bit. Can you blame a girl for being careful in this day and age?”
