“Don’t apologize. It wasn’t your fault. I still had three weeks to go.”

“Still. I should have…”

“She took us both by surprise,” I promise him.

“And you’re alright? Both of you are alright?”

“No complications.”

The tension in Luka’s shoulders melts away. “I’m glad to hear it.”

Out of the corner of my eyes, I see Tabitha’s massive smile as she gazes at her niece—hopefully the first of many.

“She’ssocute,” she whispers. “Oh my God, look how tiny. Can I take a picture of her to post?”

Luka and I exchange a quick glance.

“Actually,” he says, “if it’s alright with you, we’d rather you didn’t.”

“It’s nothing personal,” I add quickly. “We just don’t want our baby’s face out there. With my job and everything…”

Tabitha smiles, nodding. “I can totally respect that. I’ll just savor the moment.”

“Would you like to hold her?” Luka offers.

“Would I!”

Seeing my sister holding my daughter makes me misty eyed. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a dry eye in the whole room. If someone had told me a year ago this is where my life would lead me, I don’t know if I would have believed them. But now that I’m here, I can’t picture it any other way.

Luka pulls up a chair to sit next to me. He takes my hand, threading his fingers between mine. His smile is infectious, the love in his eyes plain to see. “Okay,” he murmurs. “I’m just going to do it now.”

I arch a brow. “What are you talking about?”

He tosses Tabitha a cheeky wink. “There’s no point in waiting for a perfect moment because this is frankly more perfect than anything I could have ever asked for.”

Tabitha gasps. “Oh, it’s happening!”

He gives my hand a light squeeze. “Daniella Harper, I love you to the moon and back. I can’t imagine my life without you. Every day I get to spend with you is a blessing, and I swear I’m going to spend the rest of my life trying to make you as happy as you make me.”

His words move me to full-on tears. “Luka…”

“Now, I don’t have a ring on me. I had one picked out, but it’s still being resized. I’ll go pick it up on Monday, but in the meantime…” He reaches into his pocket, pulls out his phone, and shows me a picture of the engagement ring he chose.

It’s gorgeous. Brilliant. So amazing I don’t have the words to truly describe its splendor.

“Just pretend it’s here,” he says lightly. “I love you, Dani. We’ve weathered high highs and some of the lowest lows. There’s no doubt in my mind we were made for each other. You complete me. Would you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

I’m already nodding before he even gets the chance to finish his question. My answer is automatic, ready to jump off the tip of my tongue. I feel like I’ve been ready to answer this question from the moment I first laid eyes on him.

“Of course I’ll marry you!”

Luka beams, moving in to kiss me swiftly. This man is my whole world. My sun and moon and stars.

And I get to call him mine forever.
