"I haven't quite known you long enough to form an opinion," I said.

"You’re playing it safe," she smiled. "How long have you been working for my father?"

"A little over two years," I replied and she nodded. “But I would like to get to know you enough to form an opinion," I said bravely, glancing at her with a mischievous grin.

She raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a smirk.

"Oh really? And why is that?"

I leaned in closer, my voice dropping to a low whisper. "Because I have a feeling there's more to you than meets the eye, Laura. And I want to uncover all your secrets."

Her eyes widened slightly, and I could tell she was intrigued by my words. I reached over and brushed a nonexistent speck of dust off her hand, letting my hand linger on hers for a moment.

"Are you sure you can handle what you might find?" she asked, her tone teasing.

"I'm willing to take that risk," I replied, looking her in the eye for a brief moment before returning my attention to the road.

As I observed Laura's reaction to my advances, I couldn't help but notice that while she didn't overtly turn me down. She was displaying the same level of interest and enthusiasm that I had hoped for, but there was also a feeling that it wouldn’t be that easy. Despite this, I remained hopeful, knowing that gaining her trust was the ultimate goal.

I studied her body language carefully, searching for any subtle cues that might reveal her true feelings. I noticed the way her posture was slightly aloof and her gaze wandered elsewhere. Her smile, while polite, seemed a little forced, as if she was trying to mask her true emotions.

Undeterred, I focused on building a rapport with her, using my wit and charm to try and break through her defenses. I asked her general questions about interests and listened intently to her responses, trying to find some common ground between us. I made her laugh with a clever joke and offered her a compliment, hoping to put her at ease and earn her trust.

Despite my efforts, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was still holding something back, that there was a barrier between us that I couldn't quite penetrate. But I refused to give up, determined to win her over and show her that I was worthy of her attention. I vowed to keep trying, to keep pushing forward until I had achieved my goal, no matter what obstacles lay in my path.

When we arrived at the club, I parked the car and turned to her. "Thanks for letting me drive you here. And for talking to me. It was really nice to get to know you better."

Laura smiled at me. "Thanks for the ride, but you still don't know me. Let’s keep it that way.

"I thought I had apologized earlier and we were good. Maybe we can do this again sometime?"There may be a chance for us after all,I thought, feeling a smile spread across my face.

"No," she replied sternly.

Chapter four

Laura

As we sat in Anthony’s car in the crowded parking lot of the club, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by all the people around me. It had been quite a long time since I had been out. Everywhere I looked there were individuals with different styles, different groups, and vibes. And Anthony was in my face, demanding to know more about me.

He was a member of my dad's staff, and throughout the drive here, he had been trying to flirt with me. It started with small glances and then progressed to the point where he was touching my hand. I could see what was going on, and I couldn't deny that I had entertained the idea of being with him for a brief moment.

Anthony was tall with a muscular build and had hazel eyes that reminded me of the sand on a beach. But despite his good looks, there was something about the expression in his eyes that felt so distant.

"Why?" Anthony asked after I had responded “no” to his idea of seeing each other again.

"Nothing," I simply replied.

He looked at me for a moment, and then said, "Laura, wait. You misunderstand this." But I knew what he meant.

"I just want to get to know you, that's all. I thought we were starting to enjoy each other's company," Anthony implored.

But I knew better. I had dealt with too many of my dad's staff trying to flirt with me. I knew that “this” was just another instance of that.

I looked up at Anthony and told him I had to go. I couldn't stay there any longer, and I had made up my mind about him. So, I got out of the car and said goodbye.

As I walked away, I couldn't help but wonder why Anthony had been so persistent. Did he want me for a particular reason or was it because I was the daughter of his boss? I knew that he was lying. I had seen this behavior before, and I knew that it was just a ploy by men to get something else that they want.

As I stepped into the dimly lit club, the thumping beat of the music reverberated through my body. I felt a pair of eyes on me and looked over to see two guys gawking in my direction. It wasn't the first time I had been stared at like this, so it didn't bother me. I simply walked past them, feeling the swish of my dress against my legs.
