“Josh! Mace! Quit splashing the girls!” Jensey called from the middle of the pool. “If they want to get wet, they will!”

“It’s okay, Jensen! We won’t melt, right ladies?” Marin said. “They’re having fun.”

I glanced down at my phone to check the time. It had been a little over two hours since Dylan left my room; plenty of time for me to shower, change and meet the family for a big breakfast in the dining room.

My mother noticed the towel over the food. “Remi, that will spoil; the towel won’t protect it from the sun’s heat. We should have the waiter take it away. Dylan can just order something when he gets here.”

I signed. “I know. It’s ridiculous that I saved him anything, but he won’t be able to order breakfast now and that’s what he wanted.” My sunglasses were in place over my eyes. “He said he’d be here an hour ago.”

My mother was as elegant as ever. Her body was still thin and fit despite having three children. She wore a fashionable one-piece swimsuit in crimson red, and a wide-brimmed black hat with a deep red and black print scarf tied around it. Her toenails were painted to match.

Missy and Marin were both attired for the sun as well, Missy in an aquamarine ensemble and Marin in a white two-piece. I felt fortunate to have such accomplished and elegant women as role models.

“He’ll be here, soon,” Missy said of her son. “I’m sure he just got side-tracked at the frat house, or something. He’s probably just exchanging numbers and addresses with his friends. It’s a big change coming.” She glanced at me and put a hand over mine. “Did you two have fun catching up last night?”

I smiled. “We drove around and went out for drinks. We kind of lost track of time.”

“Did he drive drunk?” Missy was concerned.

“No. I drove, but we took an Uber back to the hotel. Dylan wouldn’t let me drive.” I realized my car was on a side street near downtown and Dylan’s was at the restaurant.

“Good boy,” Teagan put in.

“Maybe he’s getting his car at the restaurant. I forgot about that,” I said, more to myself than to anyone else. “I hope so because I need to go pick up mine, too.”

“You two are quite a pair,” Marin put in.

“Remi! Watch me!” Bliss called from the high dive. I waved at my sister, letting her know I was watching her execute a perfect forward pike, hitting the water with barely a splash.

We all broke out in shouts, hoots, and a bevy of clapping.

“Wow! She’s so good! I guess she takes after daddy.” My family was athletic in general, and loved to play sports, hike, ski, and swim together. While I could hold my own, I wasn’t a star like my brother, sister, and father.

“Definitely not after me,” my mother said. “That’s for sure.”

“Or me,” I agreed.

“Dyylllaaaannn!” Lily screamed from the pool.

“Come swimming!” Lila yelled at a similar pitch. “We’ve been waiting all morning!”

“Hey, squirts! Sorry! I warned ya!”

My head snapped around to see his tall form approaching across the pool deck. He was wearing flip flops and black board shorts that sat low on his hips, his shirt flung over his shoulder. I was glad of the sunglasses that would hide the fact that my eyes devoured his hard body, cut abs and arms, flat stomach, all muscle, and sinew. My pulse sped up of its own accord, though I should have been prepared. He worked out like crazy for his sport and he was cut.

Dylan’s skin was more golden than mine, his tan from hours already spent at the beach this season. I was suddenly self-conscious of my paleness and had to physically stop myself from covering my stomach with my arms. He kicked off his shoes and shoved them under my chaise lounge and dropped his shirt on top before running and jumping into the pool. He created a splash that was much bigger than any Mace or Josh had attempted. We were all doused in a huge deluge of water.

“Ahhhhhh!” I cringed when the cold water contacted my hot skin.

“Eeeeeeeeeeh!” My mother yelled.

“Sqeeeeeeeeee!”

“Dylan!”

Marin and Missy screamed simultaneously.

Jensey, my dad, and the boys were all laughing their asses off when Dylan surfaced. He flung his wet hair out of his eyes. Lila and Lily started giggling when Dylan started growling and went after them, throwing first one, then the other, high into the air so they would come down and make more huge displacements of water that somehow ended up on top of us.
