“Go on, to bed with you,Tabitha.”

“Fine, fine, I’m going.”

Tabitha shot JK a lingering look over her shoulder before leaving. JK shook herself slightly. It didn’t mean anything. Just a slip of the tongue. That’s all it was.

She wondered if she’d have to explain that to Tabitha. Hopefully not. She didn’t want to hurt Tabitha’s feelings and fervently hoped that they could leave this little incident behind them.

JK did a quick patrol of the property to clear her head, but everything was calm. This was certainly an easy job, at least in terms of bodyguarding. In other areas… Well, it certainly had its challenges.

As she was walking back to Tabitha’s room, she ran into Alice, who was taking an armful of sheets to the wash with a look of distaste on her face. JK didn’t blame her; those sheets were soaked with the aftermath of their pleasure.

“What are you doing?” Alice asked sharply as JK moved to open Tabitha’s door.

“Tabitha asked me to wake her.”

“I can do that!”

“I’m sure you can, but she asked me to,” JK said evenly. Alice had been extremely difficult ever since finding out that JK and Tabitha were being intimate. JK was sure it was only because she was concerned for Tabitha.

After all, Alice must know as well as she and Tabitha did that this thing between them couldn’t last. Alice was probably only worried for Tabitha’s heart once this holiday was over and she and JK said their goodbyes.

The knowledge of that inevitable moment felt like a crouching monster, waiting to pounce on JK as she moved inevitably toward it. Neither she nor Tabitha had discussed the date of her departure, which was yet to be set. They were both avoiding the subject, and JK was content to avoid it for the foreseeable future.

Alice grumbled under her breath and stomped off with the sheets. JK sighed. Alice’s attitude was unfortunate, but there was nothing to be done about it.

JK quietly let herself into the room and got between Tabitha’s legs, letting Alice slip from her mind. She was exactly where she wanted to be, and she wasn’t going to let anyone else tell her otherwise.

“I want to go to a movie.”

“A movie,” JK said flatly.

“Don’t look at me like that! It won’t be like the last one.”

“Really? Because in the last one, I seem to remember us getting kicked out by the manager halfway because you were moaning too loudly while I touched you.”

“Hey, I didn’t see you complaining!”

“Because I’m an idiot, admittedly, but you still started it!”

“I’m not going to start anything this time, I promise.”

“Fine, then I guess we can go to a movie.”

JK let Tabitha pick the movie and the two of them got as comfortable as they could in the movie theater seats. Tabitha’s hand moved to JK’s thigh, but she didn’t do anything other than give it a gentle squeeze.

After the movie was done, the two of them wandered through the mall for a while, buying things here and there. Tabitha’s love of shopping would forever confound JK, but she viewed it with tolerant fondness rather than the exasperation she had felt at first.

They were just exiting into the parking lot when JK was caught by surprise by a passing woman.

“Are you? You are aren’t you? Princess Tabitha?” The woman was intense and grabbed Tabitha’s arm. For once Tabitha was outside without her big sunglasses on. She had also stopped wearing the brown contact lenses religiously and her hair was beginning to grow. They had gotten too comfortable and it had backfired on them.

“Oh my god! Wow!” The woman’s voice hit a higher pitch. “I’m such a huge royal family fan! Could I get a photo? Please?” She raised her phone.

JK moved swiftly and firmly to cover the woman’s phone and push her hand down. “I’m really sorry that won’t be possible,” she said and Tabitha just looked shocked and saddened by what was happening.

Luckily at that point their car swung around the corner and pulled up in front of them.

JK opened the back door and immediately shepherded Tabitha in, separating her from the intense woman. She got in the car next to Tabitha and pulled the door closed.
