“I’m sorry I upset you, Tabitha. I just didn’t think you should be getting involved with an escort without knowing what you were getting into. If you want to go back and pay for her services, we can do that.”

“No, it’s not that. It’s just… That was my first kiss.”

“Oh, Tab, I’m sorry. I don’t imagine that was what you wanted for your first kiss.”

Tabitha shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks. JK probably thought she was silly. Just some stupid royal who had nothing more to worry about than who she chose to kiss. Tabitha knew that JK was ex-military and had probably seen more than Tabitha could imagine.

The next thing she knew, JK’s arms were around her. Tabitha buried her head in JK’s shoulder as she cried, wishing more than anything that she could take the stupid club trip back, but it was too late for that.

“Tab, I know that first kisses are important, and you can’t ever get that back, but I promise, there will be many more kisses in your future. When you find the right person, it won’t matter that they’re not the first person you kissed. It’ll only matter that they’re the last.”

She was right. Of course she was right. Tabitha took several shaky breaths. She was feeling a little better now, but it felt so good to be in JK’s arms that she didn’t want to leave quite yet.

She finally had to when the car came to a stop at their country house.

“Can you walk?” JK asked quietly.

As much as Tabitha liked the idea of JK carrying her inside, she decided that this would be pushing it, given that she could definitely walk.

“Yes, I’m okay.” She wiped her eyes on her sleeve. “Thanks, JK. You’ve done more than you needed to as my bodyguard.”

“I may be your bodyguard, but I’m not a heartless robot. I’m not just going to see you in pain and not do anything about it.”

Tabitha chuckled. “The british police I’m used to pretty much are heartless robots—at least, when it comes to me. I mean, I know they’re not bad people and they obviously have people they care about, but to them, I’m just a job. A very important job. They don’t care if I’m upset, as long as I’m safe.”

“Well, I care. And you don’t need to worry about me telling anyone about your secret.” JK helped Tabitha out of the car and closed the door for her. “If you are into women, that is none of anyone else’s business unless you choose to make it their business. No one will be hearing about your sexuality from me, I guarantee you that.”

“Thank you, JK.” Though she had been sure before now that JK wouldn’t betray her to her mother, it was still nice to hear the assurance. “I think I just want to go to bed.”

“I’ll check the room for you.”

Tabitha let JK clear the room before falling into bed. She did her best to put the experience in the club behind her and move on. She had always tried to look at things positively, or if there wasn’t a positive way to look at them, simply focus on what positives were to be had.

Her first real clubbing experience had been an epic failure, but she still had JK as a bodyguard. JK was kind and devoted… not to mention hot.

Maybe… Maybe JK could be everything Tabitha wanted.

JK had had plenty of opportunities to make a move on her and she hadn’t, but that was probably because she was trying to be professional. Tabitha knew that JK was attracted to her. All she needed to do was show JK that she needn’t be all that professional.

Perhaps this could be the start of something truly wonderful.

JK woke up early to check on the security cameras, but everything was calm. She showered and got dressed but didn’t eat yet. She wanted to share breakfast with Tabitha when she woke up.

In the three hours it took Tabitha to wake up, JK chose to remain outdoors where she enjoyed the early sunshine whilst patrolling the perimeter of the property and familiarising herself with it and where all the cameras were and checked that all the locks on the doors and windows were working correctly. Everything was exactly as it should be.

When Tabitha woke up, she wandered through to the dining room, her hair adorably mussed. JK followed her and was surprised to see that the table was already stacked with food.

“Um… how did all this get here?”

“Dan, I imagine.”

“Dan?”

“I can’t cook to save my life, so we have Dan for that. I’m sure you can say hello to him if you like.”
