I swallow my saliva with difficulty, staring at him openly.

What the hell is wrong with you? Stop it,I order myself internally, looking for his gaze to hold on to something more neutral. Big mistake. The two marbles staring at me have apparently not lost any of my “discreet” analysis of his body and even seem to be amused by it, if I believe the slight glow that shines in them.

“How do you know my address?” I repeat, trying to keep my voice distant.

Tucker brings his face close to mine, and I try not to look down. His unshaven jaw catches my attention, but I refuse to digress again. I raise an eyebrow as I wait for his response.

“Yeleen helped me,” he whispers with a small smirk.

Yeleen? What?!

“What?!” I can’t help but scream.

Traitor. Hey, wait…I never gave her my exact address.

“Is there a problem?”

My neighbor is standing in front of her door, looking at us warily. Damn it!

“Everything’s fine!” I tell her so as not to alarm her.

“Why don’t you open the door, then?” asks Tucker.

Why should I open the door first, huh? I’m not a dog that does exactly what you tell me to, buddy. But I feel that he’s not going to let me go. I’m taking it on the chin. Well, I’m half naked, I have to find a way to get to my room without him seeing me.

“I’m going to walk away and you’re going to wait ten seconds before opening the door, okay?”

Faced with my unusual request, Tucker frowns. “Why do I have to wait? Are you naked or what?”

I don’t answer his question, but his look changes completely: he understands that he is in the right.

I squint and repeat, “Ten seconds or I’ll slit your throat, got it?”

I don’t wait for his answer. I slam the door and run out into the hallway. The ten seconds have barely passed when I hear him open the door as I rush to my closet.

“Are you hiding a body?” his deep voice echoes through the walls.

“If this keeps up, I’ll be hiding yours!” I grab an old Portland Steel T-shirt and a pair of black gym shorts. At least he won’t be able to imagine anything. Let’s not give him the wrong idea.

As I head back down the hallway, I make a detour to the bathroom and grab a small white towel. It won’t be long before Tucker is messing up my place with his soaked hair.

Tucker doesn’t answer me. To tell the truth, everything is silent on the other side of my apartment. This instantly worries me, and I hurry back into the living room.

“Where did you go?” I grumble.

I freeze as I discover him in my doorway. His gaze is on me, but he seems disturbed. It is at this moment that I discover MY cell phone stuck to his ear.

I hear my little sister’s voice bawling in his ears. It must be some kind of insult because of the shocked look on the big brown guy’s face.

I run towards him, holding back my screams. I snatch my phone from his hands and throw the towel on his surprised face. I ignore him, turn my back and put my phone to my ear.

“I don’t know who you are! But if you don’t put my sister on the phone, I’m gonna come over there and hit you! I know how to hit people! I’ve been in a fight with Mindy. I can call my friends too and they’ll help me!”

I hold back a smile at my little sister’s threats, which are anything but believable, but adorable nonetheless. “It’s me,” I tell her.

Agnes is suddenly silent. I turn towards Tucker and discover his glance on my naked legs. Seriously? I snap my fingers at him to bring him back to reality, but he ignores me and walks into my living room, analyzing every detail of this carefully decorated room.

“Sorry,” Agnes apologizes. “But when he told me you were coming back soon, I was afraid. Who is that?”
