What the hell is he doing here?

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I repeat softly as Tucker sits down quietly.

I can’t help detailing him quickly: he hasn’t shaved, his beard is slightly longer, and the grey T-shirt he’s wearing molds him like a second skin. My eyes finally meet his. I confront him with my gaze, and he does the same.

Oh, so it’s like that?

When he reaches for my drink, I glare at him and slap his hand to stop him.

How dare he!

“I have to go,” I say to my little sister. I hang up and lean towards Tucker, furious,

“What the hell are you doing here? And how did you find me? Are you following me or what?”

“You invited yourself into my house so I invited myself to your table,” he says hoarsely.

My words choke in my throat as a murderous urge takes hold of me. What a real bastard.

Pray for him, I think there will be an assassination.

22. The Call of the Wolf

Iris

“I think it’s time to refresh your memory,” I say, pursing my lips.

His amused gaze probes mine and I ignore the warm feeling that comes over me. Keep a cool head, Iris!

“You’re the one who barged into my house first, with your oversized ego, in the middle of the evening, acting as if my apartment belonged to you,” I retort.

My snarl seems to amuse him more than anything else, and once again, I get the impression that he likes to piss me off. He looks at me with a small smile and then raises his eyebrows but says nothing to defend his cause, as if his behavior was perfectly acceptable. Well, no, not okay, buddy.

“It seems to me that your little body was not against me coming that night.”

“Nonsense,” I almost growl.

He leans over and whispers, “Go tell that to your little pussy who was wet for me.”

I jump back, my back hitting the back of the chair hard as arousal takes over his features. “Goddamn it, Tucker! You can’t say things like that,” I whisper angrily, looking around to make sure no one heard us.

“Why is that?” he asks me innocently after ordering an iced drink.

I glare at him instead of answering. Why does he have to act like that? Like nothing happened on Friday night, like his mom didn’t jump on me and call me Debbie?

“Come on, we made a deal the other night,” I reply. “No more dirty talk between us. We’re classmates, nothing more.”

He laughs a mirthless laugh just before crossing his arms over his broad chest. My eyes can’t help but admire the play of his muscles.

Forget it, Iris, wake up!

“You decreed that we made a deal. But I don’t have the same terms as you. I told you, if you’re going to fake it, I will fake it too.”

“I’m not faking anything, Tucker. Okay, I’m attracted to you, but I like a lot of guys, if you want to know everything,” I lie.

His eyes darken. Oh, oh…he doesn’t like my words. Well, too bad.

“Besides, I don’t see why you insist when I’ve turned you down several times. Don’t tell me your ego isn’t hurt,” I suggest in a teasing voice to try to lighten the mood.
