“Impressive.”

“Yeah?”

“Umm hmmm.” She continued nodding.

“Bring ya ass on,” I tittered, extending my arm with a shake of my head.

Anna’s palm collapsed into mine as our bodies reunited again. One foot after the other, she stepped into the large tub, then lowered her until she was almost completely covered in bubbles. The depth of the tub was appreciative as well as the circumference. I followed her lead, ending up behind her with my right hand, protecting my dick from the scorching water I knew she loved.

“Shit,” I hissed. “Shhhh.”

“Awww. Poor baby.”

It wasn’t sympathy, it was sarcasm. Anna found comedy in my despair.

“Just a little bit cooler, Anna. Please.”

“Sure, my love.”

Without hesitation, she scooted forward and lowered the lever on the faucet to adjust the temperature. She never had an issue with modifying the water, or any other parts of her world, for my comfort. But, there was too much joy in watching me squeal before she did so during our baths.

Very few minutes later, slightly cooler water, and a mountain of bubbles, and Anna was where I loved her most–on my chest. As she rested with her eyes closed, my fingers trailed her never-ending, balmy skin. Intimacy was her heart’s source of nutrients and the language of her love land.

The slow moments fed my soul. So as much as possible, we tried to just slow it down. Words weren’t always necessary. Presence, that was enough for us both. So, in silence, we sat, me exploring her body for the millionth time and her… lending me her light during the darkness that was both inexplicable and relentless.

“Checking in,” Anna spoke after the water began to chill and the bubbles were sparse.

Lifting from my chest and leaving me yearning for her return, she met my gaze. The week had drawn to a close and it was time to check in with one another, making sure that our needs had been met throughout the week and that we were okay. Not individually, but as a married couple.

“Anna, I’m still crazy ’bout your ass another week later if that’s what you’re waiting to hear again.”

I gripped the back of her neck and pulled her closer, so close that our lips touched. And, then, our tongues. To their own melody, they danced without a care in the world. Gasping for air, Anna pulled back when she’d had all she could take. However, we never fully disconnected. The skin of our foreheads brushed against one another.

“Checking in.”

“Store-bought flowers made me feel like an afterthought this week.”

“So much was on my mind, Anna. I forgot on Sunday and tried to fix my mistake by stopping and grabbing flowers from the store. Hopefully, it makes you feel better knowing I took my time and picked out the ones I felt would at least appeal to you most.”

“It doesn’t. The flowers weren’t the issue, being forgotten was.”

“I know. I’m sorry. How can I make it up to you?”

“By never forgetting me. Ever.”

“I won’t. I promise. Anything else, my love?”

“Enjoy yourself tonight. With the guys… you deserve it, Mal. Aussie and I will be fine.”

The thought of leaving them at home to force myself to enjoy my night brought me nothing but strife. I hadn’t since our daughter’s birth and barely before her debut. Home was truly where my heart was and the only place I cared to be. Between my wife’s legs felt like the safest space on earth, which was why I hid there often.

“If it’s possible, I will.”

“Don’t try to cut out early, worried we’re missing you because you know we will. But, you need some fresh air. I’m sure everyone misses you. We’ve had you to ourselves for months now.”

“You trying to get rid of me? You tired of a nigga?”

“I never said that, Mal. I don’t think that’s even a thing. But, I do miss seeing you with the guys. I even miss them. I’m tied down by the boob right now but I’ll be back in the picture soon.”
