Something wild took over Nikolai’s gaze while he looked down at me, holding me like I was something to own and cherish. Giving me what I wanted without having to ask in the first place.

Weakness scurried across Nikolai’s face then, overcome by the intensity of our bodies meeting again and again. He faltered and dropped himself down to his elbow, able to reach a deeper, more intimate position.

His hand clutched my jaw as he thrust, not breaking that smooth momentum, and he looked at me through his haze. His warm, comforting breath fanned my face from where he held it. “This won’t last much longer if you keep looking at me like that.”

My lip curled up at the small confession, delighted by the power I seemed to have over him too. It was a mutual exchange.

Nikolai paused his movements once he filled me to the brim, and he brought his thumb up to trace over my bottom lip. He dragged it down, watching as it sprung back into place, perplexed.

When I parted my lips, Nikolai cocked a brow, then he chuckled. He placed the pad of his thumb against my tongue.

Instinctively, I closed my lips around it, never taking my eyes away from him. I watched as a subtle shudder moved through his body, and Nikolai growled.

I had him exactly where I wanted him.

Wordlessly, Nikolai picked up the pace of his hips, holding me tight to his body. I cried out the moment he reached the perfect spot, making my mind fill with a haze. The coil inside me tightened, threatening to snap at any given moment.

Surged up from my little show, Nikolai’s thrusts became brutal, like he wouldn’t get the chance to be inside me again.

Even if he could hardly look at me any other time, at least I’d get to feel his wrath differently.

Nikolai rutted into me, giving it everything he had left. I could hardly take how shocking each wave of pleasure was, frozen in my place as the moans got lost in my throat. I had so much left to scream and cry out, but I couldn’t make a sound.

Before long, the levee broke at once, and with my nails dug into Nikolai’s back, I let the bliss wash over me. Black rimmed my vision, and I could only hold on to him as his hips twitched, faltering.

Nikolai grunted with his release, slowing his hips to guide me through my orgasm, thrown head-first into a world of ecstasy. There was nothing left but the intoxicating smell of him, the heat exchanged between our exhausted bodies, and the feeling of paradise that swarmed inside my mind.

Catching his breath, Nikolai pulled out and fell next to me, chest pounding as he looked up at the ceiling.

Contented and cloaked by sleepiness, I let myself settle there in the blankets, closing my eyes to soak in the warmth circulating my system.

After a moment, Nikolai draped his arm over my side, curling into me silently. For a moment, I wondered if there was a chance our marriage could be more than a sham.

The invisible pull between us was undeniable, but there was no way of knowing what else Nikolai was thinking.

Unable to keep my eyes open, I welcomed the comforting fog of sleep and immersed myself in Nikolai’s presence.

The pleasant light that poured into the bedroom windows greeted me first thing in the morning and my eyes fluttered open. Drawing in a deep breath, I rubbed my eyes and stretched.

The pillows were like clouds beneath my head, beyond soft and luxurious feeling. The duvet was sleek and maintained the perfect temperature. Above all, I was more than comfortable.

The vague smell of Nikolai lingered in the room, and I remembered how we had fallen asleep after our private honeymoon celebration. He had fallen asleep with his arm around me as any doting husband would.

But the moment I glanced over at his side of the bed, my heart dropped. He wasn’t there. Nikolai was gone.

Was being married to me so terrible that Nikolai couldn’t stand waking up next to me? Was it impossible to find anything redeeming between us?

Sitting up then, I noticed a big wardrobe in the corner of the room, realizing I didn’t have anything other than my dress with me.

With a sigh, I got up and fished through the drawers, landing on a pair of sweatpants and an oversized shirt. I snorted to myself, not being able to picture Nikolai wearing anything other than his expensive button-downs and trousers.

Grimacing as I put my underwear back on from the night before, I slipped into the makeshift outfit and padded out of the bedroom.

Maybe I had only overreacted. There was a chance Nikolai was still in the suite at the very least. It seemed like a shot in the dark, but I kept moving.

I reached the sitting area only to find it empty. There wasn’t even a window open or a radio playing. The place was dead quiet.

The moment I realized the whole penthouse suite was barren, my chest ached, and every fear came crashing down on me. Did he plan on leaving me there on my own while he went off and took care of ‘business’? Did he mean what he said about not separating me and Kat?
