As if timed, the sky lit with a flash of lightning and an angry sea with large waves rolled towards them.

“They come.” Persephone said as she turned back to Atlas, the wind picking up from the impending storm that was her sisters. “If you will not willingly submit yourself to Tartarus, my sisters will happily help me escort you there.”

Atlas turned to Persephone with a sneer.

“Ah, yes. The other little Goddesses throwing their weight around. Cute.”

Persephone stepped forward, a cue to Devon she was done talking.

Before Atlas could say another word, Devon fell to his knees and thorny vines shot up from the ground as they moved rapidly towards their three enemies.

Crius attempted to release his ram, but wraiths came from the Underworld and wrapped themselves around the creature, pulling it apart with an ear-piercing scream that would haunt Devon’s dreams.

Atlas threw his power into escaping the vines as they struggled to hold the Titan. His brute strength tore through several vines before Devon called up more, only to have those shredded, too.

In a moment of panic, Devon turned the ground beneath Atlas into quicksand. The more Atlas struggled, the faster he went beneath it.

“Brilliant,” Thanatos said as his skeletal form walked past Devon to Atlas.

Crius started to charge Persephone but blue fire engulfed him, his screams almost as piercing as the ram’s.

Persephone’s shadows swirled about Minthe, as she fell back on a scream at the sight of the Furies emerging from the ground. Their eyes sunken and wings ripped to shreds as they crawled on all fours towards Minthe.

“Traitor,” they hissed as their bones popped into odd angles and their sharp teeth snapped at her. Before Minthe could muster a scream, the Furies descended onto her.

Hundreds of wraiths materialized from the ground and circled Atlas, Crius, and Minthe as Persephone and Devon watched on.

The wraiths flew fast enough to create a tornadic effect, their dark forms blurring into solid black. Devon ordered the ground to pull their enemies down through the earth and veil.

His vines took the three people, who had caused nothing but heartache, stress, and trouble, to the Underworld.

Persephone grabbed his hand and shadow jumped them to the gate of Tartarus.

They landed in the boneyard, and Devon felt a renewed strength run through his veins as the Underworld replenished him. A tenderness ran across him for the place he now called home. It knew what he needed. That he had to stay strong for Persephone.

They moved to the gate, and he watched Hecate’s powerful bands of silver light restrain the Titans.

Guards stood silent beside the trapped Titans as they awaited a command.

Persephone stepped up to one of the high-ranking officers of her army as he handed her a dagger. Cutting her palm, she walked to the gate of Tartarus to write in her own blood to open it.

Thanatos moved to hold the gate open as the soldiers marched Atlas and Crius into Tartarus. Leaving them there for what hopefully was the rest of eternity.

Her guards returned with a salute to indicate the job was completed and Thanatos closed the gate. Persephone dipped into her blood again to seal it. Her Godfire illuminating the runes as the gate sealed shut, the light fading away as it left only the runes behind.

Hecate released the spell of the manacles on the Titans and nodded to Persephone.

A sense of relief passed through all of them as Persephone turned to Devon and passed out into his arms.

Chapter 41

Thanatos walked into the bedroom where Persephone lay motionless, but very much alive, thank the Fates. Her body was weak from the hydra poisoning and the energy she expended to rid the world of the Titans.

The Underworld was healing her and Devon was told she would return to consciousness soon, but soon was taking far too long.

“She is crossing the banks. I’ll wait at the gate for you.” Thanatos blinked out of existence without another word.

Devon put down the book he had been reading while waiting for Persephone to wake.
