Running her thumbs over the top of his hands, she watched his eyelids twitch a little. He was obviously trying to focus on his task, but she wondered if she distracted him at all like he did her.

Such a small thing it was to hold a person’s hand. Something that could be overwhelming for someone who was not used to such a touch.

She knew the connection needed to be forged between them somehow. Something more than the Moirai and their string. She refocused on Devon, knowing her mind was beginning to wander.

“Now that you have that visual in your mind, imagine you are connected to that spot by something. Perhaps a rope, and all you have to do is give it a little mental tug. Don’t fight the sensation when it pulls back at you.”

With his eyes closed, she watched as he jumped a little, indicating he felt the tug. She was a bit surprised when instead of dropping her hand, he tightened his around hers.

She began feeling the disorienting hit of the jump, and felt as he adjusted himself closer to her, holding her tight against his body with one of his hands wrapped around her waist. His other hand holding hers between them.

Closing her eyes, she allowed him to pull her into the jump with him. Something hit the back of her knees and she fell back with Devon on top of her.

Cracking one eye open, she realized they had landed on his bed and his body was almost flush with hers. She never realized how muscular he was until his body was completely pressed against hers, hard and heavy. The thoughts swirling in her head were hardly decent.

They were silent for a moment, looking around at both the room and situation they had found themselves in before looking at each other.

Suddenly he broke into a burst of laughter. The sound was contagious, and she found herself chuckling, too.

He no longer wore the cold expression he had perfected, but a smile that spoke of relief and pride.

Devon had done it.

Her laugh turned a little strained as her thoughts went from borderline sexual to completely indecent. Their laughter pressed their torsos even closer together. If he settled an inch or so more, he’d be flush against her.

Thankfully, he lifted off of her before she embarrassed herself. When he started pacing, she wondered if she already had.

Persephone pulled herself up into a sitting position. The lightness and joy of the last moment had shifted to something else, something edgier. Devon abruptly halted his pacing and sat beside her.

A breath gushed out of him and he went incredibly still.

“That was insane,” he whispered, stunned.

She could tell his body was humming with electricity, both from adrenaline and… she wasn’t

sure what else. Something in his eyes lingered from when he was on top of her.

Lust?

Was that not a normal human feeling when two people found themselves attracted to each other?

Before she could dwell on that thought, she noticed a soft green light emitting from him.

The green light gradually covered his body, starting from his eyes and hands. It crawled right over the surface of his skin, not really touching him, but close enough to where she knew the light was most definitely coming from him.

She stood and moved to him. Entranced by the illumination, she found herself reaching out to touch his arm where the green light moved in an almost affectionate manner. As her fingers traced the light along his forearm, it gave her the lightest zap. Not a painful zap, but an acknowledgment of her.

Power recognizing power.

Persephone was in awe. She touched him again lightly with her fingers, this time prepared for the tingling shock. Gooseflesh rose along his skin where she touched.

“Holy shit,” he muttered, closing his eyes as Persephone ran her fingers up his arm. She moved over his shirt, up to his neck and jaw. An almost white light followed her fingers before it reverted back to green.

She glanced up at his face to find his eyes open and looking at hers.

They were lit with Godfire. The glow, verdantly green, was so bright that it rendered her speechless.

Almost as if in response to his Godfire, her own blue light flickered around her. Her hand against his stubbly cheek was caught between their two lights, bathed in blue and green.
