stated more to herself than him or the being called Eros.

“What do you mean if it works?” he replied and cautiously eyed the man made of light.

She looked at him as Eros stepped closer to them and spoke, “A soul bond only works if the two souls are meant to be bound. If both souls are not committed, it will reject the bond. It is a deeper, more meaningful connection. A more permanent one than a human marriage. This stone knows your intent, and if you are found worthy and willing to be faithful to only each other, you would be bound to each other for eternity.”

“This… um… this is more than I anticipated,” she murmured, “We only just found ourselves in…” She seemed at a loss for the right words.

“We only had sex for the first time, so this is almost like marriage on a first date,” he stepped in, Persephone’s eyes going wide with horror at him telling Eros this.

“You were born mortal, but your soul has longed for hers, regardless of your physical passions,” the being stated and Devon could almost feel the irritation Eros felt having to explain this to him. “Some things are much bigger than you, child. Your power will need her power, and her power yours, to survive. Your bond could change the tides.”

Devon almost laughed at this ancient being calling him a child, but he knew what the point was of this. He was more than happy to let the stone be the judge of him, and his fate, in regard to her since he knew the truth deep in his soul.

He held out his hand as he watched a look of surprise cross Persephone’s face. Her eyes moved

from his hand to his eyes.

“Devon?” Confusion and something else warred in her eyes as she watched him move into place near the stone with his proffered hand.

“Let’s do it. I cannot imagine loving anyone else in this lifetime or the next. I know you are the one I’ve waited for. So, let’s do it. Let’s bind our souls. Husband and Wife; God and Goddess style.” He smirked.

She only stared at him like she was expecting him to be kidding.

“You’re giving a guy a complex, Goddess,” he joked, but had started to feel a little weird

holding his hand out, with his heart bleeding in it, as he waited for her to take it.

After what felt like an eternity, she took his hand, her eyes still showing some concern as she placed their clasped hands over the stone.

He felt the sense of relief coming from Eros in that moment. The fact that their bond was so important to this being was baffling.

She looked him in the eyes, words that had halted at Eros’ appearance were again flooding his

mind. Persephone squeezed his hand to let him know it was okay, it was normal.

The words repeated until he realized he needed to say them aloud. He nodded at Persephone as they put a voice to them. The words being carved into the stone as if by an invisible hand as they spoke.

“We bind ourselves, mind, body, and soul. We let the mountain of Olympus take our bound selves upon this stone for it to remain for all of eternity, never to break, as our bond will never break. As long as Olympus stands, so will our bond.”

They looked from the stone to each other.

“I know your soul and I bind mine with yours,” they both finished the vow.

As the last words left their lips, Eros placed his hands of light upon theirs and a bright white glow moved over their entwined hands then up and over their wrists.

Devon watched the light as it danced over their skin before he felt a strange warmth move over his hand.

With their fingers entwined like a lover’s embrace, the light encircled their hands and wrists, growing brighter and warmer as it moved up their arms. It flowed in between them, almost making a figure eight around and through their hands. As it settled against their skin, it seemed to absorb into them, creating a tattoo along their left wrist and circling up and around their left forearms, only to move like an infinity sign back to their ring fingers.

A skeletal serpent with narcissus and poppy flowers growing around the skeleton had been tattooed there. They both looked at each other as the illumination and fire faded, only the light of their eyes still glowing bright.

“You are the first to be bound with soulbond marks since the ancients. This will change the tide when the war finds you both. This will only make your power that much stronger; Olympus stronger. Chaos bless you,” Eros’ voice, full of joy, whispered on the wind as he disappeared.

“I believe, my Goddess, our bond was accepted.”

They both woke up from the dream at the same time, right where they had fallen asleep in
