Blinking her eyes open, all she could see was blue. Blue plastic? The sun filtered through ragged holes as her body was bumped and jostled, reigniting her pain over and over again.

“You’ve awakened!” Danu moved into her line of sight, smiling down at her, as Bryn blinked her sensitive eyes.

“I—” Fire shot through her throat from trying to speak.

“Now, now, none of that. Your throat only just knitted itself back together, and Jace only has so much healing water until we find a natural source.”

Finian’s large mug filled her vision before Danu pushed him back, earning a bark from the behemoth of a dog.

The sound of metal moving had Bryn trying to turn her head, but her throat felt like it was tearing open all over again. Stuck in the prone position, she could only stare up at the blue plastic tarp as Danu placed her hands on either side of Bryn’s head to hold her still as the truck swerved.

“She is alive, damn it! Focus on your driving!” she heard Justin’s voice bark out the order.

Justin. Justin was dead! Wasn’t he?

Her eyes widened, and Danu laughed as she looked down at her.

“It is not easy to send gods to where they do not plan to go, and none of your fellow Tuatha Dé Danann cared to cross over just yet.”

They were alive... except Travis... and Kian.

A tear fell down her cheek, but a rough tongue licked it away before it could fall from her face.

Her eyes opened wide at the sensation. A whine left the creature that had just licked her as it brushed against her and settled in, warming her with its bristled fur. Finian was relentless.

The animal moved again, and a sob left Bryn’s mouth as she caught the color of the fur from the corner of her eye.

Silver. It was silver!

Danu smiled again as she looked down at Bryn, her eyes full of laughter.

“Welcome back, Phantom Queen.”
