Bryn turned to look, hearing yelling, gunfire, but the people making all the noise were moving as if stuck in molasses. Never had a vision been like this before, and unless the person who died was near other people, or killed, she never saw more than one person.

And never from her own perspective instead of the victim’s.

The flash of a gun firing several feet away from her lit up the air around the weapon for minutes instead of less than a second. Bullets moved through the air at a snail’s pace, all the while Bryn’s movements were not slowed or hindered in any way.

Walking through the center of the fighting, knowing this was a vision and she couldn’t be harmed... or so she hoped, she watched as Arioch stepped into the middle of the road with a weapon trained on a hooded figure. The stature of the individual was not recognizable to Bryn, but the large black-as-night wolf that came out from nowhere caught her attention.

A wolf? When had there been wolves in Ifreann? Hell, Bryn thought, when had there been crows for that matter?

And when the same wolf went for Arioch’s throat, tearing it out, Bryn screamed until her world went black.

Chapter 17

“So,who’sdeathdidyou foretell?” Danu asked as Bryn took a sip of water from a new glass.

Knowing the glass she had touched had been Arioch’s, she wasn’t sad about his death as much as she now had visions from items people touched. Danu had said her powers would grow, but visions from inanimate objects was going to make her life even more hellish.

Wasn’t that grand?

Everyone was in the room now, and all watched as she seized on the floor. Her day just continued to get better and better.

Hopefully, the vision didn’t ruin the drawing room for her. It was one of the few places of refuge she had.

Sage was still on the couch next to her, Jace now on the other side of her. Niamh and Danu were across from them on the other couch, while Declan, Kessler, Mr. Rafferty, and Caden took chairs. Travis stood next to the door, hand on his pistol, as he watched Callum’s and Danu’s every move.

Jace bit the skin around his thumb. Pacing was one thing, the biting at his nails and skin was a whole other level of concern. She’d really worried him.

“Arioch,” she whispered through her parched throat. Even with the water, her throat was raw. She must have done some serious screaming during her vision.

“How did he die in the vision?” Justin asked, leaning forward in the chair. She wondered if he actually believed her or wanted to know so when Arioch’s body showed up, he knew who to blame.

Bryn stopped her thoughts there. That was unfair of her. If she didn’t want people to always believe the worst of her, she didn’t need to do the same to them.

“Wolf tore his throat out,” she whispered, and Justin let out a little huff of laughter before responding.

“You sure these visions are real? People haven’t seen a wolf in these parts since before the Collapse.”

“Haven’t seen a crow either,” Bryn snapped before closing her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she opened them again to see that Justin held a pensive look on his face but said nothing more.

So, Bryn needed a little more work on the trust front. She could admit her flaws.

Apparently during her vision, Cyerra had suddenly appeared in the drawing room, flapping her wings, and making a nuisance of herself until Danu ordered her away.

The crow was out of the bag in Ifreann.

“Well, if we are all being dragged to the circus for another encore, let’s get on with the dancing monkeys,” Declan grumbled, folding his arms as he watched Danu with the obvious skepticism he was wearing like a shield these days bright in his whiskey-colored eyes.

“I’ve thought long and hard on how to handle this. I thought to tell you all about your past selves, but after seeing how Declan reacted to just small truths, I believe actions would be far more profound than words.” Danu turned to look at Callum, putting her hand out for him to take.

Standing, her body trembled with the effort, and Callum took her elbow as they walked to the person nearest to them in the room, Justin.

“Hold out a hand,” Danu ordered, and Justin gave an exasperated sigh but did as he was told. Callum, at Danu’s nod, reached into the velvet green bag belted by the rope at his waist and withdrew an orange-and-yellow stone before gently placing it in Justin’s hand.

From there, they moved to each person in the room, placing a stone in everyone’s outstretched hand, all except Niamh, Travis, Mr. Rafferty, and Caden.

All of the men, aside from Mr. Rafferty and Callum, wore matching looks of irritation and disbelief.

They didn’t believe a word Danu said, thinking her crazy. Bryn could see it in their eyes as they watched Callum dispense with the stones.
