Opening her eyes again, she was startled to see him sitting on the floor next to her with his knee up, his elbow on it, and his hand hanging down as he watched her with a mix of curiosity and some sadness.

It was the sadness that pissed her off.

“Sorry to disappoint. Seems if I am that pathetic, how much more so wereyouto be killed by someone like me? Not sure who should be offended here.”

A laugh startled her. His eyes held mirth, and she had to hold her breath. He was heartbreakingly gorgeous...for an asshole, she reminded herself.

“Touché.”

“How did you die?” she asked, watching him.

“You mean how did you kill me? That I cannot remember.”

“You hardly seem upset about it.”

His eyes flickered over her as he stayed quiet, his face pensive as if he were thinking about how to answer.

“Perhaps I feel like that was not the end of my story, and soon I will have my vengeance.”

Okay, it was subject-change time. Bryn did not feel like discussing what exactly he had in mind for his vengeance. She looked at his blue tattoos and remembered her own from the vision she’d had.

“Those tattoos. . .,” she whispered, moving to touch his skin, her fingers hovering above his arm.

His eyebrows went up as he put his arm out for her to see.

Bryn touched the cold air where his arm would have been had he been a man made of flesh and blood.

“You’ve seen them before?”he asked, no inflection in his words to give her an idea as to what he was thinking.

“In a vision... I had them too. They were all over my arms.”

“What else did you see, Bryn?”

Settling on her knees, she tried to recall all she could remember.

“There was a horse called Senan...” She stopped as her brain caught up with her mouth.

She shouldn’t be telling him this. Perhaps she had killed him because he was in fact a Fomori, like Cyerra had said.

That would make him her enemy, and if they were enemies, she needed to rethink what she said to him. Bryn also needed to figure out how to know when he was skulking around so that he didn’t learn any valuable secrets about her or her friends.

Kian made a carry-on gesture, but she bit her lip. Raising an eyebrow, he smirked.

“She learns.”

“You said we could be enemies or allies, but I am not sure where you fall. Who were you that I would have killed you?” she asked, wanting him to say the words. To verify her suspicions.

Looking away from her, he closed his eyes but said nothing.

“Was it that bad?” she asked, feeling an apology on the tip of her tongue and then the ridiculousness of such a thought. It would hardly make him any less dead.

“Like I said,I can’t remember. I just know you killed me, and now I am tied to my killer in death. Whether it was against my will or not, I do not know.”

Fantastic.

“Have you gained any new memories since you woke up?”

His silver eyes grew unfocused as he recalled his past.
