“Youdruggedme!”Jaceyelled as soon as Bryn’s foot hit the landing of the stairs to their apartment hallway.

“I did,” she agreed as she turned from him and walked into her apartment. She was too tired to fight, and her bed was calling to her.

Declan, as per usual after sex, had passed out. That gave her the opportunity to leave without chatting about what this all meant.

So much for closure and starting new,she chastised herself.

As she had walked home, Cyerra had followed her, as usual, but said nothing to her.

Honestly, had Finian not come galloping around her for some slobbery dog kisses, she worried she might have punched someone.

There were enough townspeople around staring at her to light her last nerve on fire.

She’d slept with Declan, and yes, she’d finished during the act, but it wasn’ther.

Bryn had not really been in that room with whoever those two people were, and that felt all kinds of wrong.

Sitting on her bed, she focused on getting her boots off and not the ache between her thighs or the angry man in her doorway.

Could she just let her and Declan pretend they were together? Would it be so bad to have that relationship rekindled when they both needed someone on their side in all this?

She was the broken one, and it seemed that Declan had accepted that part of her. Why would she turn away that affection? People married for less than love around Ifreann all the time.

“You know how I feel about that, Bryn,” he growled, and she had to remind herself that Jace was talking about her drugging him and not marriage to Declan as she looked up to face him, throwing her boot on the floor and flexing her liberated foot. Standing, she walked back to the door, Jace stepping back out into the hallway with an angry scowl.

“You just had a whole cart full of shit land on you. We knew you wouldn’t rest unless you had help. So, we helped. You’re welcome.” Slamming the door in her cousin’s face, she felt a little bad about that, but the subsequent kick and curse before his boots thudded back to his room cured her of any ill feelings about drugging him.

It was the only way a man like him would take a break.

The fact that he should have been out for far longer told her that in the future, Sage would have to up the dosage. Apparently with his newfound powers, he pushed drugs out of his system faster.

Sitting back on the bed, she took her remaining boot off as she wished for a bath, thinking hard on if it was worth it. As she unzipped her skirt, Cyerra tapped on the glass.

“I’ve waited for you to show up for a while now, but I have my answers, so you’ll excuse me if I don’t jump up to greet you.”

The tapping grew in agitation.

“Why bother pretending you can’t get in? Figure it out,” she mumbled, stripping naked before pulling on her nightgown, ready to bed down for the day.

When had she gotten so mean?

Lying in bed, she rolled onto her back. Usually, she’d have bent over backward to tell Declan all the sweet and nice things lovers were supposed to say, not slip off after the man’s first snore.

Her reaction to Jace was especially surprising. Never in a million years would the old Bryn have slammed a door in his face.

Pushing her body deeper into her nest of pillows, she stared at the ceiling as she considered walking down the hall to apologize to her cousin. However, if she did it right away, he’d probably return the door slam.

A lot had happened, and he had just woken up in a fury. He needed to work through it, and them flinging accusations and hurtful words would do nothing to help him or her.

A knock sounded at her door, and she groaned. Jace coming back to argue more was very unlike him, but they were all changing these days.

Opening the door, her jaw dropped to see not Jace, but Declan. The consequences of her actions were now here, standing on her doorstep.

Waving him in, he bowed his head and stepped through the doorway as Bryn stepped back, the discomfort between the two of them palpable. Not to mention, Declan rarely came to her apartment while they dated. He’d asked, of course, but it was so much safer at the Cauldron where Mallory couldn’t invade her personal space at any moment.

She could only imagine her aunt finding her having premarital sex.

Turning to shut the door, she noticed Kian’s shadow flicker in the corner, and she wanted to groan. This was not a conversation she wanted to have in front of him.
