“You gonna tell me what that was about?” Styxx asks, leaning against the door frame while I pull out the first aid kit and set it on the counter.

“Nope.” I turn the water on and lean down to wash my face first before inspecting the damage done. I have to admit that fucker has a damn good arm. He managed to bust my lip and cut my cheek. I’ll be lucky if my eye doesn’t blacken.

“I told you, man . . .”

“Don’t start, Styxx,” I growl, not wanting to hear it. “I know that woman is under my skin, and I’ve got to get it together.”

“You seeing her with another man has got you worked up,” Styxx remarks. “Even if it’s her brother.”

“I didn’t know he was her brother,” I snarl, pissed at myself for allowing her to affect me this way.

“I know you didn’t. It’s why you reacted the way you did.” Shrugging, Styxx straightens. “You need to figure out once and for all if you want her or not. If not, let her go and move on.”

“So says the man who needs to do the same,” I sneer.

Styxx smirks and shakes his head. “Difference between us, Scythe, is your woman wants you. The one I want as my own is too damn timid and runs from me whenever she sees me. So, I’m living the way I want until the time’s right.”

Fuck me. I know he’s right. I need just to quit fucking around and make Josephine mine once and for all.

CHAPTER5

JOSEPHINE

“What do you think you’re doing, Jamie?” I demand, shoving my brother on the shoulder. “You know better than to start a fight here. I told you to behave.” I’m more than aware of the members of the club glaring at Jamie for what he’d done.

“Guess you can say I was knocking some sense into the man,” Jamie says, grinning, and turns to Reaper. “Sorry about that, but it needed to be done.”

Reaper watches Jamie for a brief moment, eyes hard, watchful. “What happened is between you and Scythe, but don’t do that shit again. Not on club grounds. You do, and you will have to deal with my brothers and me.”

“Understood.” Jamie nods and looks at me. “Sorry, Jos, but it needed to happen.”

“No, it didn’t,” I hiss, wanting to clobber Jamie for what he’s done. “You’re a damn idiot. You and him both.”Stalking away, I ignore Jamie calling out my name or the fact earlier, he asked to speak with Reaper about some business. I mean, what could Jamie have to say that would involve the club anyway. I do, however, intend to discuss this with my brother later when we get back to the house before I have to leave.

As it is, I need to get a move on so I can get to where I’m going and find a spot to set up, but I’m not about to leave without getting a few things straight. Scythe had no business fighting with my brother, and I want to know what possessed him to do just that.

Going inside, I ignore the bitches sneering at me. They’re nothing but skanks who need to learn to dress and do their makeup. Sometimes I swear they look like clowns more than anything with all the shit they cake on. I mean, seriously, isn’t it better to look more natural than anything? I know it’s my preference but to each their own. Right?

One of them starts to say something, but again, I ignore her and keep making my way through the clubhouse until I get to Scythe’s door. For a moment, I close my eyes and take a deep breath, remembering the last time I’d been at this very same door. The brazen part of me takes charge and I open the door, only to be mortified by what I saw. Not that what he was doing wasn’t hot, but there was no way I wanted to see him with two of those pocket pussies. It also isn’t my scene to do things like he was doing with those two women.

Gearing myself up, I open my eyes, raise my hand, and prepare myself to knock when the door is jerked open, and a shirtless Scythe stands there.

“What the hell do you want, Josephine?” he demands, eyes narrowed to little slits, and his nostrils flare like he’s breathing fire.

I stiffen and prepare myself for his wrath. “I wanted to know why on earth you would get into a fight with my brother.”

“He pissed me off.” Scythe grinds his teeth, and he’s lucky if he doesn’t crack a tooth with how hard he clenches his jaw. “Why don’t you run along back to your brother now?”

“No,” I snap and shove a hand into his chest, taking a step forward until I’m in his room. I ignore everything else, including the fact he closes the door the minute I clear out of the way for him to do so. “I’m sick of you acting all He-Man.”

“He-man?” He interrupts me with a smirk and cocks his brow.

“Don’t think I didn’t see the way you glared at my date last night.”

“Your date is a fuckwad who is self-absorbed and looking for an easy lay.”

I back up as he moves in closer.“You have no right . . .”

“Is that right?” Scythe grins, and it’s then I realize my back is to the back of his door. He lifts both his arms, caging me in on either side of my head, and he leans in. “When it comes to you, yeah, Freckles, I have every fuckin’ right there is.”
