“We should celebrate this evening.” Robert reached out and squeezed Ash’s shoulder. “So many things to be thankful for. Even Eleanor’s health.”

Ash lifted a brow, then, with a resolute sigh, nodded his agreement.

Eleanor lived with a second cousin on the Isle of Man. The cousin had agreed to take her in when Robert had offered the woman a yearly allowance for the aggravation of keeping his aunt company. As a testament to his big heart, Robert still cared for her. When she’d become ill recently, he’d sent a doctor and had paid for the expense. The woman had the audacity to write Robert regularly asking for an increase in her allowance, but every time he’d politely refused. Though she’d ruined her friendships with her old cronies, Robert still treated her with respect and kindness because she was family.

Elizabeth reached over and cupped Robert’s cheek. “You’re a good man.”

“The best,” Ash added.

Ethan rolled his eyes. “Come on, Amanda. They’re getting a little too sentimental for my tastes.”

Amanda jumped up and took her brother’s arm.

As they started toward the house, Amanda thought she was whispering, but everyone could hear her. “I think it’s sweet how much our parents love one another.” She tugged on her brother’s arm. “I convinced Cook to make our favorite iced biscuits. I’ll race you.”

As their children took off, Elizabeth’s heart felt near to bursting. This was always the life that she’d envisioned for them. Ash, Robert, and she lived together without any worry or fear of rumors or gossip. Their entire staff was loving and respectful.

But it was their love and commitment to each other that kept Elizabeth in awe. It grew stronger every day. They were as committed to each other as when they were eighteen. The fact that after so many years together, they had added to their family was nothing short of a miracle. They were truly blessed.

“Lizzie,” Ash murmured as he embraced her and pressed a kiss to her lips. “Let’s go inside and take a nap.” He helped pull her to a standing position.

“Excellent idea,” Robert murmured as he wrapped his arms around her. “How does a foot massage sound?”

“Like heaven,” she replied.

But her real heaven was having both her husbands by her side and fully committed to each other. No matter what life threw their way, they would handle it together.

Always and forever.

Caelan: Guards of Clan Ross

HILDIE MCQUEEN

That is until meeting Caelan, who brings out a side of him, he’s never known. However, there is no room in their world for love between men, and he will assure, above all, not to be found out.

Only love can push past obstacles and make a way.

Chapter One

ISLE OF UIST, HEBRIDES 1703

The morning mist added to the allure of the moment. Caelan’s boots crunched the dried leaves, the noise loud in the quiet forest. Despite every instinct telling him not to, he walked in the direction the muscled warrior Lachland had gone.

Perhaps it was all in his head, the idea that the man had signaled to him to do so. Yes. He was mistaken, the warrior probably went to relieve himself and here he was following behind, desperate for what he’d perceived as an invitation.

An invitation to what, Caelan wasn’t sure.

The breeze blew against his arms, like a velvety caress across his overly sensitive skin.

This was a mistake. He’d never once acted on his impulses. Always maintaining the demeanor of a young inexperienced man. Which, in actuality he was. Caelan had never been with either a man or a woman, for that matter.
