“Hi, Cha-Cha,” I said with a weak wave. “Good to see you.”

She winked and nudged Kiefer, who was grinning from ear to ear. They didn’t seem quite right in the head. Nice, but strange.

“Have a lovely evening,” I choked out then buried my head in the menu. Coming tonight was a mistake.

“You too,” Cha-Cha said. “I have a feeling it’s going to be terrific!”

“From your mouth…” I muttered quietly, hoping Boutonniere Guy got here soon so we could get the debacle over with. I wasn’t even hungry anymore, which was sad. The pasta Bolognese was delish. I could always get a to-go box.

“Oh my fucking God!” Countess Plasma shrieked, pointing down Fifth Avenue.

Helen screamed as well, whipped out her cellphone and began taking pictures. Dracula Smith pumped his pale fist—he only had one until the other grew back—over his head and laughed like the nutjob he was. Everyone was on their feet and I couldn’t see what the commotion was about. Whatever. At least no one’s focus was on me. Cha-Cha was cheering and Kiefer was hooting and hollering.

Kiefer’s reaction was a good sign. The man was a cop. If a murderer with a chainsaw was running down the street, I didn’t think he’d be so cavalier. But it was Dwayne and Zorro’s reactions that really gave me pause. Zorro swiped at tears with an enormous smile on his handsome face. Dwayne looked mighty impressed and gave me an enthusiastic thumbs up from his table across the patio.

“What the hell is happening?” I asked, standing up and walking over to the sidewalk to see.

Had Cher arrived? Dolly? Lady Gaga? I was curious what had garnered such an enormous reaction.

It was not Cher.

It was not Dolly.

It wasn’t Lady Gaga.

No. It was much better, and I almost passed out.

My heart raced like I’d drunk a vat of coffee. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. I wasn’t. Stuff like this didn’t happen for guys like me… until now.

Prince Charming, dressed in black Armani with a red rose in the lapel of his jacket, sat atop a white steed and galloped down the avenue. Horns were honking. Cabbies were cussing and flipping Prince Charming off, but he didn’t give a damn. He rode proud, tall and sexy on his mount.

I recognized every gorgeous feature on his face. My body trembled like a leaf. Kurt was an excellent equestrian. His bright blue eyes were trained on me. It was the most terrifying and exciting moment of my life.

Someone was screaming like they were on fire. It was terribly embarrassing… and loud… and unhinged. It wasn’t until Dwayne came over and gently shook me, I realized the screamer was me.

“Hold it together, Johnson,” he said with a laugh. “Pretty sure your dreams are coming true.”

The huge white horse stopped in front of the restaurant and Kurt expertly dismounted. Luigi took hold of the reins just as the horse took a giant dump. Dracula loved that. Helen snapped a shot.

Kurt simply shook his head and chuckled. He positioned me so I wasn’t looking at poop.

“Hi, Johnson,” he said with an uncertain smile on his face. “You look lovely tonight.”

“Umm… thank you,” I replied, more nervous than I’d ever been in my very long life. “You’re stunning, Kurt. Love the boutonniere.”

He grinned.

I melted.

“I thought you might like it,” he replied. “And the table?”

“Perfect,” I whispered, unable to hold back a toothy smile.

The man of my dreams cleared his throat multiple times as he searched for the right words. It was as adorable as it was sexy. “I was wondering…” he said. “I mean… would you… you know…” He sucked in some air through his teeth and ran his hands through his hair.

“You don’t have to wonder,” I said, helping him out. “Yes. The answer is yes.”

He expelled a huge sigh of relief then chuckled. “I never got to the question.”
