“That’s just how he is,” I say, shrugging. “He’s incredibly generous.”

I scan the keycard, opening the door to the room and stepping aside so they can enter. The view from the room is the best in the hotel with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the snow-covered peaks of the Badger Creek mountains. It seriously looks like something out of a movie. This is the room where most of the website pictures are taken from even if it’s not the type of room most tourists can afford. I’m not even sure this room has ever been booked. At least not since I started working in the hotel.

“Holy shit!” Brandon shouts, walking to the window. “Trace, check out this view.”

“It’s the best in the hotel,” I tell them, moving the curtains aside so they can take in the full view. “You have an extended balcony with a fireplace and heaters. There’s also a full kitchen and the on-staff chef is available to provide meals based on your preferences. No cooking for you, unless you want to,” I add, smiling at Tracy and Brandon as they move about the room.

“The suite has one bedroom and a full bathroom with a soaker tub, rainfall, steam shower and dual sinks. Off the bedroom is another balcony with a hot tub,” I continue. “I’ll leave you here and if you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call. I’ve left my number on the nightstand. Enjoy your stay.”

“Thanks, Zoey,” Brandon says, opening the massive sliding door to let in the cool mountain air.

“Hey Zoey,” Tracy calls as I walk to leave the room.

“Yes, is there something I can get you?”

“How about you have dinner with us tonight? We’re taking Ethan out as a thank you for letting us stay here, and we owe you one too.” Tracy says, and I’m not sure how to answer. It feels rude to say no, but I have no idea if Ethan would want me there. These are his friends and it might be nice for him to have some time alone with them.

“I’m not sure if Ethan would want me there,” I reply, not trying to seek attention, but just answering honestly.

“I’m certain Ethan would love it if you were there,” Tracy says, a confidence to her words that has me suddenly agreeing to dinner with them.

Chapter9

Ethan

Iknock loudly on the door of the penthouse suite, which opens quickly to reveal my best friend standing there with a beer in his hand and a huge grin on his face.

“Well shit,” Brandon says, pulling me into a one-armed hug. “It’s about time you showed up.”

“Sorry,” I reply with a laugh. “Got caught up.”

“Of course you did,” he says drily as he closes the door behind me. “Also, you suck for comping the room, but thanks.”

Chuckling, I slap him on the back. “Yeah well, you suck for staying here tonight, but you’re welcome,” I say. “Also, remind me again why you are staying here when I have a perfectly good house you can stay in?”

Brandon laughs, giving me a wink as he says, “We’re here to look at wedding locations. We gotta try out all parts of that.” He pauses to take a sip of his beer before continuing. “You know, wedding night and all,” he adds, a sly grin on his face.

I roll my eyes. “That’s why you wanted to spend a night here?”

“Yep, then we’re all yours,” he says, an arm around my shoulder as we walk toward the living area. “Although no guarantees there won’t be wedding night activities happening at your place too.”

“Jesus,” I mutter, shaking my head at my best friend. “Did you at least check out some locations? Zoey was going to—”

Brandon pauses, turning to look at me, a huge grin on his face that I’m all too familiar with. “Yeah, so about, Zoey,” he starts and I’m already holding a hand up to stop him, because I know this is definitely not going to be about wedding locations.

“Don’t,” I start. “We are not having this conversation.”

“What conversation?” he asks, all mock innocence like he has no idea what I’m talking about.

I lift a brow. “Really?”

His grin only widens. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Ethan. Anyway, back to Zoey. What’s the—”

“There you are!” comes Tracy’s voice, thankfully ending this conversation before it has a chance to go any further.

“Hey Trace,” I say, pulling her into a hug. “Good to see you again.”

She kisses me on the cheek before pulling back, a smile on her face as she looks up at me. “Good to see you,” she says, glancing at Brandon. “This is some place you have here.”
