I know it’s something there’s a market for because we get enough requests through the lodge. But staying in a hotel versus staying in a luxury cottage with all the amenities for several months are two very different things. So I know this and also my plans for the nearby motel could really work for Badger Creek. Expanding, but not expanding.

“So, what do you think?” I ask when I finally finish.

Brandon chuckles. “You wanna be business partners again, huh?”

I smile. “Yep, that’s what I’m proposing. You know you’re the only guy I trust with this.”

“I know, ditto,” he says. “What about Declan? Didn’t he come to you with a proposal for expansion?”

I groan. “Not like this,” I tell him. “And I don’t want to be in business with Declan, I barely even know the guy. I’m not even sure why you hang out with him,” I admit, even though I know they knew each other better in college.

Brandon laughs again. “He’s not that bad, but yeah, I hear you. You got any info you can send me about the location and numbers? I trust you obviously, but just so I can take a look.”

I lean forward and hit reply on his email, attaching the documents I had ready. “Sent,” I say. “Let me know what you think. No bullshit.”

“Never,” he says, letting out a breath. “And ditto on the house okay.”

“Will do,” I confirm. “And remember, keep it on the down-low.”

“What, your thing with Zoey or this?” he asks, laughing.

“Both, idiot,” I reply, laughing as well.

“For sure. Later, Ethan.”

“Bye,” I say before hanging up, a grin on my face because maybe, this might all work out better than I expected.

The rest of my day is busy and I don’t get a chance to see Zoey again, even though I am thinking about her constantly. I’m so fucking glad she said yes to coming over tonight, because I’m not sure I can handle not having her in my bed for a second night.

“Mr. Morrison?”

I look up to find Cameron at my office door. “Yeah, hey, Cameron, you heading home?”

“Unless you need me for anything else?” he says, as usual, always ready to drop everything for me.

“Nope,” I say, smiling as I stand from my chair and shut down my computer. “I’m actually heading home myself.” Cameron’s eyes widen as he glances at his watch before looking back at me, the expression on his face making me let out a loud laugh. “What?”

He chuckles, shaking his head a little. “I’m not sure,” he starts. “But I think this might be the first time I’ve seen you leave work at a decent hour.”

Now it’s me chuckling. “Maybe,” I say, as I grab my phone and a few files from my desk. “And maybe I have a good reason to leave on time for once.”

“Oh?” he prompts, brow raised in question.

I grin, walking around my desk and toward where he stands at the door. “I’m getting old, Cameron,” I say, a hand on his shoulder. “Maybe it’s time I had an early night.”

He rolls his eyes now, knowing he can because we’ve worked together for years and I’ve always valued his honesty and his sense of humor. “Uh huh, I’m sure that’s it, Mr. Morrison. Although for the record, you’re about half my age, so really…”

I grin, the two of us walking out of my office as I shut the door behind me. “Half your age, surely not,” I tease.

Cameron smiles. “Well, whatever the reason, it’s good to see. You have a good night Mr. Morrison.”

“You too,” I say, grinning because I know, with Zoey coming over, my night isn’t going to be good, it’s going to be spectacular.

I’ve been home for about twenty minutes, when I finally hear the sound I’ve been waiting for, the doorbell.

“Hi,” Zoey says, smiling up at me when I open the huge wooden door.

“Mmm, come here,” I command, not even waiting for her as I wrap my arm around her waist and pull her to me. “Fuck, I’ve missed you,” I whisper, lowering my mouth to hers.
