She laughs, even as she deepens the kiss. “Well, I do have boots, but we’re heading in together, right? I assume you’re driving us.”

I grin, as my arms tighten around her, holding her close as we stand in my kitchen, making out like a couple of teenagers. I don’t care though, because everything about this, about having her here, about waking up and starting my day with her, is just so fucking perfect.

I want this. With her. Every day of my life.

“Okay, we really should get going,” she murmurs, pressing against my hips. “Before this gets out of control.”

“It’s already halfway there,” I groan.

“I’d say, it’s all the way there,” she says, grinding against my hard-on before she pulls back a little. “But we also need to get to work.”

Groaning, I reluctantly let her go, as I turn and pour myself a mug of coffee. “And here I thought I was the workaholic,” I tease.

“Oh, you are,” she says, smacking me on the butt. “But so am I, that’s why we work.”

With a grin, I can’t resist leaning in to kiss her again. “It’s not the only reason.”

“You good,” I ask, taking her hand in mine and giving it a gentle squeeze as the elevator takes us up from the underground parking garage.

She glances over at me. “I’m good.”

“Thank you for coming over last night,” I say, lifting her hand to my mouth.

She smiles. “Thanks for asking me.”

“You never need an invitation. You have your keys?”

She nods, her bottom lip between her teeth as I kiss the back of her hand, gently nipping at her knuckles, just as the elevator jolts to a stop and the doors open to reveal Delaney standing on the other side.

I quickly drop Zoey’s hand just as Del looks up from her phone, surprise flashing across her face as she looks first at me and then at her friend. We’re standing close, probably closer than is normal for work colleagues, but I don’t think she saw me holding Zoey’s hand just now.

“Morning, Delaney,” I say, forcing myself to act normal as I hold the door open and gesture for Zoey to step out.

“Ah morning, Mr. I mean, Ethan,” she says, smiling at me before turning to her friend. “I thought you came into work early?”

Zoey steps out of the elevator, a light flush on her cheeks that I hope Delaney thinks is just from the cold weather.

“We were off-site, looking at some property I’m interested in,” I quickly say.

“Oh?” Delaney asks, glancing between us like she can’t decide who to look at, or whether to believe my story.

“Yes,” I say with a nod as I step out of the elevator. “But it’s top secret, so…” I trail off, putting my finger to my lips, just like Zoey did to me in bed this morning as she was calling Delaney. The flush on Zoey’s cheeks deepens and I have to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself from smiling.

“Yep, got it,” Delaney says, glancing at Zoey again. “I won’t say anything.”

“Great, thanks,” I reply, turning back to Zoey. “Thanks for this morning, Zo, that was perfect having you there with me,” I add, turning so Delaney can’t see as I give her a wink. “I’ll talk to you later?”

Zoey just nods, her eyes wide now because she knows I am absolutely not talking about a morning property inspection.

With a grin, I turn back to her friend. “See you later, Delaney, have a great day.” Then I head up to my office, unable to stop the smile now.

Chapter24

Zoey

“You wanna grab a coffee with me?” Delaney asks, and I swear the way my heart is racing feels like it’s obvious to anyone within an earshot. It’s beating so hard that I begin to wonder if she can hear it too. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.”

It does feel that way and it’s only been a couple of days, less than a week, since Ethan and I started this whole thing. But it already feels like most of my time is spent finding ways to see him. Things would be a lot easier if I could just tell her what’s happening, but not with this business plan and the expansion coming together. I can’t risk things for Ethan and our relationship getting out.
