“Ethan!” she whisper-shouts, grabbing my still undone tie and tugging on it. “He could’ve walked in when we were fucking on your desk!”

“I know,” I say, leaning in to brush my nose against hers. “Next time we’ll just make sure we lock the door, won’t we?” Zoey groans and I can’t help but laugh as I give her a quick kiss. “It’s okay, Zo. We’re okay here, I promise.”

She hits me with a look that says she doesn’t quite believe me. “Well, I think I’m definitely going to need my panties back now, please,” she says, hand out.

With a laugh, I curl my fingers around her wrist and bring it to my lips, pressing a kiss to her palm. “Nope. Besides, when we get home, everything’s coming off. We’ll just call this a head start.” Zoey lets out a huff and I can’t help but laugh as I lean in and press a hard kiss against her mouth. “Hope your little desk fucking fantasy lived up to expectation,” I whisper against her lips. “Because I fucking loved it.”

Zoey blinks, biting her bottom lip even as she gives me a small nod telling me she loved it too.

Grinning, I can’t resist adding, “And just so you know, we still have my office at home to christen.”

She rolls her eyes, even as a smile tugs at her lips. “Mr. Morrison, you are insatiable,” she teases, her hand on my cheek.

“Nope, I’m just hopelessly in love with you,” I tell her. “Let’s go home.”

Chapter28

Zoey

We’ve spent the entire weekend together and when I wake up Monday morning, still beside Ethan in his king size bed with the pillow-top mattress and the ridiculously comfortable down pillows and the smell of his body mixed with the smell of pine and snow, it doesn’t feel like long enough.

Ethan is still asleep beside me, his breathing slow and relaxed, his face at ease. I feel exactly how he does with the press release out and the public now privy to all the expansion details. And with the article about my involvement coming out soon, things feel stable. Things feel safe now.

I curl into the side of Ethan’s body, my head resting in the crook of his arm, basking in the calm that has come over us after all the sneaking around. We won’t have to do it anymore, and even if people talk, I’m learning to ignore it.

It’s not anyone else’s business as to what goes on in my personal life and who I date. I’ve proven in all the years I’ve worked here at Badger Creek that my family’s name is not just who I am. And to add to that, my relationship with Ethan is entirely separate from my job. We may have met at work, and he may be my boss, but that doesn’t define my work ethic or how I’ve moved along in the company.

“You’re up early,” Ethan mutters, his lips pressing to the top of my head. He leans over and presses the button on the remote that sits on his nightstand.

The blinds in front of us slowly start to open, giving us a view of the snowy peaks and the treetops of the Badger Creek mountains. The sun is just beginning to rise and what we can see out the window, it is a view that’s to die for.

“I am. Today is the first day of the rest of our lives,” I tell him, my cheeks already beginning to ache from all the smiling.

“What time do Alex and Delaney get in again?” Ethan now asks, us making a plan last night for when and how we’re going to tell them.

We decided they would be first since I live with them, and I confessed to Ethan how guilty I feel that I’ve been keeping it from her. As my best friend, she should be the first to know. After that, we said we’d tell my parents and Max. Not that I think anyone will be all that surprised, especially Delaney. She’s been telling me I should hook up with Ethan since she first met him after her rescue.

It’s the staff at Badger Creek that has me a little worried, but Ethan said he plans to handle that end of it, and I’m happy to let him. He mentioned something about sending an email Wednesday morning rather than making it some crazy announcement. It is still our personal lives after all.

“Their flight gets in around nine. Late, but I figure I’ll come by here after work and we can have dinner…”

Ethan cuts me off, his fingers tracing small circles on my bare skin as he asks, “Is dinner what we’re calling it now? When you say dinner, you mean we’re going to have sex, right?”

He sounds like a horny teenage boy, and I can’t help but laugh at him. This is a side I never expected to see from the guy who tends to be all business.

“No, Ethan, dinner is still dinner. And breakfast tomorrow with my parents and Max is still just breakfast, so don’t try to convince me we should stay home and have sex.”

“You are very bossy, Zoey Holden,” Ethan teases, propping himself up a little, his eyes now floating over to the view of the sunrise.

I watch him, his expression painted with happiness, and I still have to remind myself that this is real. That we are a couple and while things have moved very fast, I don’t really care. Everything with Ethan feels so right that the passage of time means nothing.

“Tell me about how you ended up here?” I now say, shifting away from our original conversation.

“You know how I ended up here. I bought Badger Creek,” Ethan replies, like I’ll be satisfied with the simple answer.

“I mean, tell me about your house. This wasn’t what was here when you bought Badger Creek. There was a house here, but not this,” I clarify, holding up my hands to indicate around the bedroom.

“So you’d seen the house that was here originally, huh?” Ethan asks, his voice a little raspy still. “It was smaller than I wanted, but I didn’t want to deal with the city and all the ordinances and building permits, so I just added on to the original house.”
