“You ready for this?” Ethan asks me, just as we’re about to enter the room. I nod, taking in a deep breath, trying to clear my head and enjoy the night with our friends and the guy I love.

“Yes, and after this, we’re going to go home to our house and sleep like babies knowing that Declan has been caught.”

“Fuck yes,” Ethan replies, squeezing me tighter.

Just as we walk through the door, Tracy comes running up to me, her eyes wide and the concern on her face is obvious.

“Oh my god, Zoey, are you okay?” she asks, her voice shaky. “I can’t even believe the guy who abducted you was at our wedding. I feel awful.”

“No, no. No one is to blame for any of this except Declan and we’re done talking about this. Tonight is your night and you look gorgeous and the food is going to be amazing and we’re going to party like…” I trail off, trying to find the right words and Tracy laughs.

“We’re going to party like we’re twenty-one again,” she says, which only adds to the laughter.

“Babe, you do realize that was only like two years ago for Zoey, right?” Brandon says to his adorable bride, and Ethan reaches over and punches him in the shoulder.

“Thanks for calling out that age gap, dude,” Ethan quips, rolling his eyes.

“Please like you two aren’t perfect for each other,” Brandon says, shaking his head. “Now let’s go party and forget everything that happened just a few minutes ago.”

“I’m in!” I call out, taking Ethan’s hand, I lead him out onto the dance floor, being the first people to start dancing, but I need to make this a night to remember for all the right reasons.

We spend the entire night drinking and dancing and laughing. It feels like our life is finally back to normal as Ethan and I walk out of the reception room, both of us exhausted and sweaty.

We leave the reception a little early, Simon hanging back and enjoying the last few songs as he dances away. I’m sure he’ll show up at mine and Ethan’s house after he’s done here.

“I hope they loved their wedding,” I say, as Ethan and I are waiting for Eric to pick us up. He offered to drive us home after the police arrived and he was back at the reception. We’re lucky to have him even if Ethan does pay him. He’s been amazing and without him, I might not be standing here right now.

“I’m certain they did,” Ethan replies. “And I’m sure they’re going to enjoy the wedding night even more,” he jokes, and I swat at him, my hand slapping him on the stomach. He places his hand over mine, smiling at me.

“You need to mind your own business, Mr. Morrison.”

“Is that so? I think we need to have a trial run of what our wedding night will be like. What do you think?” he asks me just as the car pulls up.

“What did you have in mind?” I flirt back, winking at him as I sidle up against him, my hand running over his ass.

“Well, I think the future Mrs. Morrison is kinda into windows and bathrooms,” Ethan plays back, swatting me on the ass as I climb into the backseat of the car.

“Windows, really?” I whisper in his ear, leaning close so Eric can’t hear. “I think you’re the one who is into windows. I seem to remember a trip to Seattle where I was certain you were going to—”

Ethan’s hand shoots up to cover my mouth, and my head falls back laughing. When he pulls it away, I’m biting my bottom lip and thinking about our time in Seattle.

That was when this all started.

I rest my head on Ethan’s shoulder, remembering how amazing my time with him has been despite all the craziness. I’ve never fallen so hard in love with anyone, and I want to feel this way with Ethan forever. Even listening to him talk about us getting married and calling me the future Mrs. Morrison has me ecstatic for our future together.

“I think you need to save the rest of those words for when we are in the privacy of our own home,” he tells me, lifting my hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to the inside of my wrist.

“We’re here,” Eric announces, pulling into the driveway and punching in the code for the gate. “Would you like me to remain on the property tonight, Mr. Morrison?” he asks now.

Ethan looks over at me, waiting for me to answer, and while I would love to say no, I realize that it will make Ethan feel safer knowing my life isn’t at risk.

“That is up to you,” I reply, now waiting for Ethan to answer. I don’t need Eric here with us anymore. Having Ethan here is enough for me and the peace of mind knowing that Declan is in police custody helps even more.

“How about we keep Eric on for a few more days?” Ethan says, looking at me, wondering if I’m going to object.

“Whatever you say, Mr. Morrison,” I reply cheekily, exiting the car, and he quickly follows me. “Good night, Eric. Thank you for being there for me.”

“Just doing my job, Zoey,” he replies back, turning the car off and heading back where his SUV is parked.
