Romeo drummed his fingers on the table. “How did Tate escape the killer?”

Chad looked up sharply. “What?”

“He escaped, right? I want to know how.”

“He opened the door and got out.”

“While the killer was there?”

“Yes.”

“So the killer let him go? Why?”

“We don’t know. Maybe at the club, undercover, someone might tell us why. Someone might know what links all these young men.”

“You’re going to listen to gossip?”

“I’m willing to listen to it if it’ll help point the finger in the right direction.”

“I’m not happy about this.”

Chad looked at him, flaring his nostrils, and shifting his jaw from side to side. “You can’t tell…”

“But you want to do this?”

“Yes. I do.”

“I can’t stop you from going.” Romeo cracked his neck. “There is a big part of me that wants to chain you to the bed, and when I say big, it’s massive, and I’m more than capable of overpowering you and doing it.”

His words slapped Chad in the face, but he masked the hurt, and reached for Romeo’s hand across the table.

“But if I do that you’d hate me for it.”

“I’ll never hate you.” Chad squeezed his hand. “I need you to trust me.”

“I do, I just don’t trust everyone else.”

“Josh will be there.”

Romeo’s expression darkened. Chad internally kicked himself.

“All I mean is, I’m not going to be on my own, and I’m not going to do anything stupid.”

“This whole plan is stupid.”

“Stupider than that.”

Romeo deflated. “Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Yes, okay. It’s your choice, and I respect it. Be careful. A fair warning though…”

“About what?”

“If I find out someone hurts you, even if they step on your toes by accident, they won’t live to see the next day.”

“I love you too.”
