“Who are you dressed as?” Dean asked.

Romeo knocked his fingertips against the hockey mask. His tight white t-shirt was filthy with mud stains, and what looked like blood. “The generic, pissed-off boyfriend.”

Chapter Eleven

Chad tried to think of something to say to Dean to lessen the tension, but he came up with nothing. Romeo and Dean were caught in a staring match.

Chad lifted himself on his tiptoes. He wanted to scream, shout, and possibly cry, but instead, he exhaled a shrill, “Back away.”

“Never.”

“Please, Romeo.”

Romeo huffed and dragged Chad with him as he retreated across the club. Their backs bumped against the opposite wall.

Dean was still watching.

“Are you mad?!” Chad shouted.

Romeo turned towards him. Cotton meshing hid his eyes from view, but Chad could feel them burning a hole through him.

“Not mad, furious. He was groping you.”

“He wasn’t.”

“He wanted to.”

“I thought you’d be pleased—”

“That some idiot is trying to get in your pants?” Romeo snapped. He pressed out his chest, trapping Chad against the wall.

“No. That someone came dressed as you. It’s what you wanted, right?”

Romeo lowered his head closer to Chad. His mask rested against Chad’s. “I didn’t expect you to be salivating over them. If you want me to wear suits again, you only have to say.”

“I wasn’t salivating. I was talking, getting information like I told you I would.”

Romeo turned away, scanning the club. His build and stance had given him away at a distance, but up close, Chad could smell him. The same scent he’d sprayed all over Chad but mixed with spices and earth.

He smelled of home.

Chad pushed him. “You can’t be here!”

“Did you really think I’d let you go off on your own?”

“You said it was my choice.”

Romeo nodded. His hands settled on Chad’s hips, and he smothered Chad with his solid chest as he spoke. “Yes, it was, and I made a choice, too. I chose to come here. It was either this, or I was going to handcuff you to the bed.”

“How did you even get in?”

“I bought a ticket outside.”

Chad widened his eyes. “What?”

Romeo shrugged. “Well, technically, you did. It cost a small fortune. Sorry about that, but what’s yours is mine, right?”

Chad spotted Josh dancing with the devil. Chad steered Romeo in the other direction, all under Dean’s watchful eye.
