TURNER

I’m doing something I never thought I’d have to do. Staring at my phone as I stand outside of the police station, I sigh.

“What’s the worst thing that could happen? They tell you to go fuck yourself?” I mutter to myself.

Except… they wouldn’t. Red would never turn me away while I feel like my life is ending. My Lavender is gone… and I need them to help me find her.

Dialing Red’s number, I wait for it to ring.

“Hey Turner… What's going on? It’s one in the morning. Are you —“

“Nothing’s okay right now, Red,” I sigh. “Lennon’s missing, and there’s no signs of her. The police are on it, but it’s not looking good.”

I may as well rip off the bandaid. It hurts my heart just saying it.Please say you’ll help.

“Wait… what do you mean Lennon’s missing? How is that possible?” she asks, struggling to keep her voice calm.

Red’s grown a lot over the years, being a mom really changed her, and she doesn’t overreact as easily as she once did. It looks good on her.

“Tori?”asks a sleepy voice that I recognize immediately. I’m pretty sure they’re all curled around her, exactly how Roark and I would be with Lavender.

I’m not sure I can include Derek right now, even in my imagination.God, please don’t have anything to do with this, Derek.

“Yeah, Greg. It’s Turner. Rub the sleep out of your eyes, and come talk to him with me,”Red coaxes.

“Red, I could kiss you. I hate having to ask for help, but the police have their thumbs up their asses. Someone drugged her a week ago when we were in Seattle, and we lost our minds trying to find her then. A roadie put something in her water that time and… well, it was a shit show,” I sigh, fisting my hand.

I’m struggling so damn hard to keep it together, but I still feel tears pricking my eyes. Blinking hard, I force myself to continue. “Roark found a medical syringe and her knife thrown to the side tonight, and we can’t find Lennon anywhere. Why would she leave her knife, unless…”

I can’t even bring myself to say it.

“Hey, Turner? You’re on speaker, man. Where are you right now? I’m getting dressed and coming out to you,”Greg says gruffly. I can hear rustling in the background as he pulls on clothing.

“I’m sorry for dragging you away from your family, Greg. We’re in Albuquerque right now,” I sigh, rubbing my face tiredly.

“You are family, dumbass,”Greg chuckles, and I can practically see him roll his eyes at me.

“Oyen, ¿por qué están despiertos?”I hear over the phone and my lips twitch at the sound of Miguel’s grumpy voice. He’s usually up late since he owns various clubs. Parent life must be rough right now with the twins.

“Turner needs me, Miguel. His girl’s missing. I need you and Link to take care of our girl and the hellions,”Greg says and I hear the tinkle of keys as he grabs them. “Look, Turner, you’ve been family ever since you took Tori under your wing. You were there for her when we were all shitheads. Text your location to me, and I’ll head out now, okay?”

I blow out a breath, feeling lightheaded in relief. “Thank you so much. Seriously I—”

“You owe us nothing,” Red says carefully. There’s a softened harshness to her tone, as if she’s struggling to keep the emotion out of her voice. “Take care of yourself and your people, Turner. Greg’s going to text a friend of his so he can fly out privately instead of being at the mercy of a commercial flight. He’ll be there as soon as he can, okay?”

I nod even though she can’t see me. “Yeah. I will. Red, she’s everything to me. I can’t—”

“You won’t,” she says firmly. “She’s alive, I know it. Greg, you better keep me updated on things. Give Roark an extra hug from me. Turner, I love you, call me if you need to scream or yell, okay?”

“You’re the best,” I tell her, a small smile escaping despite the situation. Red is so full of life, so different from the broken and sad person I met years ago. Lavender reminded me so much of her when I first met her, but we clicked in a different way.

Fuck, I miss her.

I hear the automated doors open behind me and stiffen. “I’ll let you go, Red. Greg, I’ll see you soon. Be safe.”

I hang up abruptly as I hear Roark’s heavy steps. He’s communicating his movements so I knew he was walking my way. Turning slowly, I see Layla is pulled into his side. She looks a little lost, and I totally understand why.
