“I have half a band,” Lennon reminds her with a shrug. “And at this point I don’t know if I’ll ever perform again.”

“No,” Mav says, shaking his head. “We were on loan, that’s it. I don’t remember officially agreeing to joinThe Velvet Escape.”Layla doesn’t seem upset by his words, still watching Lennon. “And… What do you mean you don’t know if you’ll perform again?”

“A lot has happened,” Lennon tells him. “I just don’t know what I want anymore.”

Atlas drops his cheek on her head and hugs her from behind. “You know we adore you, right? Jam sessions, writing, what the fuck ever. We’ll show up at this mysterious house, jump the fence, and scare the neighbors to play with you.”

Mav and Atlas are changing tactics, meeting her where she’s at for now, and I approve.

Jordan has been quiet as he watches us, choosing now to speak. “I don’t think their neighbors will spook easily. You may want to consider announcing yourself before jumping the fence so you don’t get shot.”

Layla puts it together first. “You’re living next door to Greg and his family? That means… you’re just an hour away from here,” she says in surprise.

“Mmhmm, Greg insisted on buying us the most amazing house. He won’t let me pay for it, the furniture, and anything else,” Lennon says, eyes closed, as if she’s just enjoying Atlas' hug.

They’ve been band members and friends for a long damn time, so it makes sense that she’s soaking in the love.

“Wow,” Layla mutters. “Look, all I want is for you to be happy. I’ve never seen anyone look as happy when they're around music as you do. You light up the whole fucking room. Mav is right, they were on loan to me, and we just fired Leo and Albert for not taking music seriously. They also are huge cock blocks.”

Jordan winces and I grin. I remember hearing somewhere that Layla was really sheltered. Apparently a lot less now.

“I know, maybe when I’ve killed more people my music will be happier,” Lennon says, looking over her shoulder to see if she’s scared her sister.

Atlas doesn’t stop hugging her and Mav bares his teeth in agreement.

“You don’t scare me, Lennon. I told you to make it hurt, remember?” Layla says, going in to join the now group hug between the four of them.

As much as things are changing, maybe these sisters aren’t as different as I thought, after all.

LENNON

As emotional as it was to see my sister, Mav, and Atlas, it was also really nice. We agreed to sit down and talk about business in the new year to see what direction I want to move in. No one is pressuring me, but they made it clear that not singing wasn’t acceptable.

Sighing, I look around me at our new house. It’s now two days before Christmas, and the Georgetown local businesses performed miracles to get us our furniture. There are still things I want to get, but I'll have to wait until I can use my debit and credit cards. I don’t feel right ordering a custom California king on Greg’s dime, so right now we’re sleeping on two king size mattresses in the master bedroom.

Well… Orion hasn’t made it to sleeping in our bedroom yet, but I’m working on it. I told Turner and Roark we had sex in the kill room, and they smirked, teasing me about how kinky my sex life has become.

Psh, it’s always been pretty damn kinky.

“Lenny!” Roark calls and I stop daydreaming in the sun room to turn towards his voice.

“Yeah?” I ask, moving through the house to find him.

“Greg’s here to see you, should I kick him out or let him in?” he asks.

I laugh, because we are definitely not kicking that man out.

“Play nice, baby,” I croon, finding Roark already letting Greg through the door.

“Hey, let’s have a chat, shall we? I have a few people still on our mutual shit list to find. Office?” he asks, already going in that direction.

I didn’t even know there was an office! I haven’t gone through all of the rooms, because I know I’ll want to paint or decorate. Glancing at Roark helplessly, he snickers and gestures for me to follow him.

“It’s too late to kick me out now, Lenny!” Greg yells over his shoulder and I roll my eyes, rushing to follow him as I rush after him. “Oh! Send Derek in too in about twenty minutes, would you, Roark?”

I smirk, glancing over my shoulder as Roark scowls. “Oye, find your own damn butler,” he roars, giving him the finger and stalking off.
