“The rooms are all soundproof,” Greg says, unlocking a door. “She’s not restrained, so I’ll go first with Orion. Feel free to clothesline her ass if she rushes you.”

As he opens the door, I watch as Derek catches it as Greg and Orion rush in. My mother runs at them with a scream, and Orion punches her in the throat, ensuring that her feet are swept from underneath her as she falls.

I take a shaky breath as I watch her writhe and choke. She couldn’t have thought that she'd be able to overtake two grown men. Though, the only reason she was able to knock out Derek is because she had a taser.

“Hello, Mother,” I greet her, stepping inside.

Orion hauls her up, and her eyes dart between us.

“Lennon,” she croaks. “You can’t honestly be here to watch me die.”

“You can’t kill someone who is supposed to be a figment of my imagination,” I tell her.

“Baby boy,” my mother croons to Derek, and I wince as he flinches. “Are you here to fuck me one last time? This isn’t the most romantic space, but I don’t blame you. My pussy is probably—”

Derek cuts off whatever disgusting nonsense she was about to spew as he wraps his huge hands around my mother’s throat and proceeds to squeeze. His muscles tremble as his teeth grind together as he struggles to regulate his intense emotions. My mother has hurt him so many times, this kill belongs to him.

“I have no intention of ever fucking your used up, dry pussy ever again. I’ve spent so much time agonizing over the past, and punishing Lennon for things she had nothing to do with. It’s time for you to die, and stay dead, Carrie,” Derek growls.

I gasp a silent breath as I watch, my heart clenching for the boy my mother tried to ruin.

Derek holds her up as her knees buckle underneath her, her feet kicking as she turns bright red. I watch dispassionately until the light fades from her blue eyes, and Derek drops her to the floor like yesterday’s garbage.

Greg leans down, checking for a pulse before shaking his head. “She’s gone,” he confirms and I shake out my hands.

I’m not sad she’s gone, it’s more the relief that it’s done. I’m coming down from a ton of adrenaline, and swallow hard. I feel another odd flutter and frown, wrapping my arms around my middle.

Orion picks me up, and I inhale his lemon scent. I don’t know if it’s the soap he uses, but it helps ground me when I start to feel lightheaded.

“I got you, it’s done,” Orion murmurs. Every step has led me here, and I’m glad I have a safe place to land as it all hits me.

Derek cups my face, the same hands that just killed my mother, are now incredibly gentle.

“Len, you’re safe, and we’re going to make sure you continue to stay that way, got it?” Derek asks, kissing me roughly.

These are the things I need to ground me, and my fingers fist Derek’s hair.

“Got it,” I gasp as I come up for air.

He grins wickedly, opening the door and holding it gallantly.

Greg rolls his eyes as he follows us out, locking it behind us. Pulling out his phone, he sends out a text.

“I love how easy the clean up is with you, I swear you’re going to make me lazy,” Orion grumbles.

Greg snorts, shaking his head. “I pay people to dispose of bodies for me, guys. They do a phenomenal job of burning the bodies and bleaching the rooms. It’s why there’s a morgue with a furnace. If you really need to do things the hard way one day, I’ll make it into a training exercise or something.”

I snuggle into Orion, uncaring that I’m being carried out of this facility.

“I don’t want to be a caveman, but I don’t want to put you down yet,” he murmurs as he walks up the stairs.

“How about a compromise? I’ll walk once you get to the top of the stairs, and then you and Derek can nap with me when we get home,” I tell him with a small smile.

“Home, I like the way that sounds,” Derek mumbles.

At the top of the stairs, Orion puts me down, nodding. “I think a nap sounds perfect,” he says with a smile.

The four of us waltz out of the building without a care in the world, one step closer to our own kind of freedom.
