“Someone who told me I could take my time. I have the green light to torture you, kill everyone in the house, and fuck you until you die—”

Greg wraps his hands around the chatty man’s head and twists it sharply, allowing me to revel for a moment in his death.

“He wasn’t going to give us anything else,” he grunts and I nod with a sigh.

“Is there anyone else on the property?” I ask.

Greg jerks his head behind me and I whirl, seeing a man thrown over Orion’s shoulder in a fireman carry.

“Is he alive?” I inquire, and Orion shakes his head, dropping him at my feet.

“There wasn’t a dark web job,” he scowls. “Xav must have figured out I was scouting for them. Fucker went with lower level mercenaries.”

“They were sloppy,” I confirm, kicking the bodies at my feet to make me feel better. “What are we going to do?” I ask.

“Orion, grab some plastic tarp, and leave them in the shed. I’ll have a clean up crew come get these assholes. Lenny,” Greg says, wincing. “I think it’s time we set you up as bait.”

My lips twist in distaste, but I knew this could be a necessity. “Whatever we need to do, I just want to be safe,” I confess.

“Go inside, knowing Turner and Roark, they’re already up,” Greg says.

Derek walks quietly up to us, already carrying plastic sheeting. “You’re all so prepared,” I tell them, smiling weakly.

I’m not upset about seeing these men killed, but instead, I’m tired of looking over my shoulder all of the time.

Turning my back on them, I walk back inside. “Guys!” I call out, finding Turner already standing in the kitchen with his bat. “We’re clear, baby. Where’s Ror?”

“Here,” he grunts, and I turn to look at him further up the hallway with a knife.

Smiling because they were safe the whole time, I jerk my head towards the kitchen, turning on the light.

“We have to talk,” I murmur, sitting at the island. Roark follows me in, dropping his knife back into the butcher block.

“Aye, Lenny. This needs to stop, little Valkyrie,” he rumbles.

“Xav is hiring second rate people who don’t do business on the dark web,” I sigh. “So they’re going to keep coming, though they'll be sloppy. But one day, they could get lucky, and catch us unaware. Like they almost did tonight.”

“No one was supposed to know where we are,” Turner growls.

“Unless,” Greg says, slamming into the house, “we have a fucking mole. So in that case, we run this without telling anyone.”

I chew my lip, nodding. “What are you proposing?” I ask.

“Lennon, how would you like to fly?” he grins and my stomach drops even as my eyes widen.

“Wait a second, back it the fuck up,” Turner insists.

“What if I took Bear up on his offer to perform atThe Spinning Cloud?”I ask, following Greg’s train of thought. “Jordan acts like this is our big comeback, contacts the media who was friendlier about my disappearance as a thank you…”

My mind is already whirling, moving so fast I can barely give myself any time to be afraid.

“Lennon,” Turner growls, before sighing. “Fuck, this is the only way to ensure Xav comes for you. He can keep sending people after you, but—”

“He’ll come after Lenny if he thinks it’s a sure thing,” Roark confirms.

Derek and Orion walk in from outside, their eyes bouncing between us. “What did we miss?” Orion asks, eyes narrowing.

“A plan to bring Xav out of the shadows. We’ve hit a wall, and frankly we’re going to need to be on top of things now that your location has been leaked. I’m having guards with my security firm posted at the house,” Greg tells me. “Xav won’t think to infiltrate them, they can’t be bought, and they’ll protect you with their lives.”
