I nod frantically, and she grabs it from the side table. Before Dr. Zane kicked out the nurse, yelled at the charge nurse and the head doctor earlier when they made the mistake to pop their heads in, she made sure she had her necessities.

“Push when you have to, and do what feels natural,” she coaches.I’m so damn lucky she’s my doctor.

This is my last coherent thought until I’m a ball of pain, pushing and breathing my way through each contraction. I’m so loud, I wouldn’t be surprised if they thought someone was dying, but I don’t give two shits.

“One last little push,” Dr. Zane instructs.

Crying, I shake my head. “I don’t think I can,” I wail, exhausted.

“Yes, you can,” Layla barks. “You wouldn’t let anyone know the gender. I want to meet my niece or nephew. Push the moment you need to!”

Bossy bitch. I’m the one pushing a bowling ball out of my vagina.

Another contraction hits and I push. “You did it!” Derek crows and I cry harder.

“I did. We did… is the baby okay?” I ask, worried.

Dr. Zane nods, lifting the baby to my chest. “Yes, you have a beautiful son, Lennon,” she coos.

I gasp out a laugh, looking down at the baby looking calmly at me. I cuddle my son to me, whispering to him, when my eyes widen. “Wait… is the placenta supposed to feel like a contraction?” I ask, panicked. “I just did this,” I wail.

Dr. Zane ducks between my legs, and she curses under her breath. “Okay, so you’re not done. You are having twins. I don’t know how, except that the baby boy you’re holding decided to hide his sister or brother. Let’s do this one more time, Lennon!”

And so, I get ready to. Dr Zane stops me as soon as the head is clear. “Lennon, give me just a second, the cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck, but I can fix that,” she says calmly. I feel a slight pressure, and my doctor nods with a smile. “We’re fine now, it slipped free with just a little help.”

I can’t thank her, because hands are helping me to hold my baby to my chest as I’m wracked by another contraction. Soon, I have another baby to welcome into the world, and I lay back, gasping as I kiss my babies.

“Fook, of course we would have children that needed to make a grand entrance,” Roark rumbles and I laugh.

“A perfect little girl and boy,” Dr. Zane grins. “The placenta still needs to be delivered, but the hard part is done. I’m going to change my gloves, and let the nurses know I won’t need them at all, okay?”

Exhausted, I nod, smiling down at my children.

“What do you think their names will be?” Layla asks in awe. “Such a brave protector, taking care of his sister.”

I nod, exhausted as I smile at them. I had such an insane few months, I’m not surprised in the least that they would be protective of each other.

“Devlin means fierce and courageous,” Roark says, surprising me. Glancing over at him, I see he’s completely entranced by the twins.

“All in favor,” I ask, smiling.

Everyone cheers, “Aye!” And I giggle.

“Hello Baby Devlin, welcome to your crazy, amazing family. Your daddies are protectors just like you, so I think you’ll fit in perfectly,” I tell him.

A knock sounds, and Layla reaches out for the blanket, covering my bottom half immediately.

“Come in,” Roark calls, brow raised.

A nurse comes in, with Dr. Zane following behind.

“I ran into one of my favorite nurses, and changed my mind. Kaitlyn is here to check the baby’s vitals, so I can check on you, Lennon,” my doctor tells me.

Nodding, I let the nurse check airways and vitals, happy to find they’re perfect.

“Oh, I checked you in under a different name than what you initially gave,” Dr. Zane says sheepishly. “I also scared the hell out of the staff, so I expect we’ll be fine and no one will leak that you’re here. Do we have baby names yet?”

The nurse tells me she’ll come in to weigh the babies a little later, and congratulates me.
