I sigh, staring at nothing. “I know some of it, and I can tell you he has strict moral codes, even though Orion believes he’s just a killer. He feels anger, frustration, but the other emotions are foreign to him. Guys,” I tell them looking up, “we kissed after we killed Eric together. He told me he’d never been kissed before.”

Lennon hisses, and I glance over at her in confusion. She grabs my face and kisses my lips hard, straddling me. “I hadn’t seen him in days, and didn’t know why,” she says softly. “You killed him?”

I nod. “Orion kidnapped Eric from the facility the night he saw you. We tortured him for information, hoping he would give us the address to Hidden Hills, but the little shit refused,” I sigh.

“Well kept secret even in death,” Lennon grumbles. “I’m so glad it’s going up in flames. Hidden Hills is an evil place.”

I kiss her again, suddenly eager to get out of this hospital. I probably could live without seeing the inside of a hospital for a long time.

Roark surges up, walking to the door quickly. “Oye, nurse,” he calls as he peeks his head outside. “Is there any chance Lennon can be discharged early? Please?”

It’s already seven-thirty at night, so it wouldn’t be ridiculously early. The nurse talks to the doctor, and half an hour later, I’m pushing Len in the wheelchair towards the exit.

I’m nervous to see how she’ll do now that she’s free. I’m excited Lennon is alive and on the mend, and I’m worried Orion may have left anyway.

Am I that easy to leave? Or was it that hard for Orion to stay?

The answers will keep until we get to the safe house. I understand that Orion is trying to figure out the right thing to do, but Len and the guys have taught me that sometimes the right thing is the opposite of what your brain is telling you to do.

LENNON

The drive to the safe house is uneventful. We’re in a very rural area of Kentucky, but through the darkness, I can still see trees and open fields.

I lean back in the back seat and yawn. I’m still sleep deprived and weak from not sleeping or eating well. My stomach is still not very hungry, and I don’t know what to do with that. I should probably get real food into my stomach soon, other than soup, but my thoughts are too busy to worry about this yet.

I hope Orion is still at the safe house, because I may have to kick his ass if he isn’t. I’m not in any shape to bear people today, so I’d rather not have to.

“Lennon, why are you scowling so hard?” Roark asks with a chuckle.

He’s sitting next to me in the back seat, and it’s pitch black. How he can tell what my face is doing is beyond me.

“I’m thinking too hard,” I sigh with another yawn.

“Aye, someone sounds sleepy too, little Valkyrie,” he says knowingly. “I, for one, am also starving, so I hope someone stocked the fridge.”

This is the moment my stomach chooses to perk up and growl. I look down at it with wide eyes, surprised by it.

“I think my stomach missed your cooking,” I giggle.

There’s a pause by the three men in the car, as if they’re basking in the sound. I ignore it, because I know they missed me now. I feel really dumb for thinking they could have walked away from me, but I was so cut off from everything for weeks.

Xav is very good at destroying your world, hopes, and beliefs.

“Lenny?” Roark asks softly and I sigh.

“I got caught up in my thoughts,” I murmur.

“Can I ask what you were thinking about?” Turner asks, not pushing, simply asking.

I rub my nail against my finger, the slight pain grounding me.

“I was thinking about how wrong I was to think you’d all abandon me,” I tell them. “Between the videotape, photographs, and the newsfeed of Layla’s voice talking about how she was taking over the tour, Xav had me almost completely convinced everyone had walked away from me.”

“I fucking hate that shit head,” Turner growls and I nod my head in agreement. I hate him too.

Derek turns in his seat to look at me. “I saw those photos and the video, Len. Orion brought them back, and honestly, they looked pretty convincing because you can’t tell who they are,” he says.
