“You know I’m a killer, will all murders or law bending be absolved if I take this job?” I ask. I wasn’t completely careful in the things I’ve said, and Greg did watch us murder a man.

“Yes. I wouldn’t come for you for any murders even if you don’t take the job. It's not my business, outside of my jurisdiction, and I feel like you have some kind of moral compass, so I’ll leave you to it,” he says honestly.

I nod, thinking about my next question. “Grant has dirt on Derek from the warehouse killings, if you go after him publicly, I wouldn’t put it past the asshole to leak the tapes,” I tell him.

Greg nods as I talk, and I stop speaking, feeling as if he’s already ahead of me on this.

“I need to pull those recordings. If you can get me into the warehouses, I’ll be able to hack into the security system and follow it wherever it’s been downloaded. This way there’s no evidence of it,” Greg says. “It just makes sense that I erase anything he has on you as well.”

I bite the inside of my lip, since it’s less noticeable as a tell. “I think that’s the only instance where he’s recorded me, but that would be a good idea. The other and only thing I would want is access to the people who hurt Lennon,” I growl. “I want to see that they suffered, watch the light disappear from their eyes.”

Greg nods. “I feel the same way. This is very personal. We will need to interrogate for information first, and then the fun can begin.”

I relax as I realize he’s not pushing back on any of that.

“Do I need to get a job with the government to get an invite to that party?” Derek teases.

I allow myself a chuckle as I take him in. Roark is clearing plates, paying attention but there doesn’t appear to be any distress in what he’s hearing.

Greg grins, taking Derek in. “There’s a darkness in you waking up, and I want you to be able to channel it appropriately. Working with me would do that. I have a security company in Georgetown, which is a facade as a mercenary for hire,” he says. “We take on a lot more government jobs than we did when we first started, but I wanted to be in their good graces when Xav popped back up, so it was worth it.”

“And now?” I ask, crossing my arms.

“I still enjoy it, and most of the jobs that come through are close to home. It has to be a special job for me to leave. Like this one. Lennon is practically family, and I want her to live her life without looking over her shoulder forever,” Greg murmurs with a grimace.

“She deserves some peace after all of this,” I sigh.

“Exactly. So, what do you think?”

“I’m in,” I tell him before I can drag my feet any longer. “There’s nothing keeping me in Kentucky, though I do like my house.”

“How do you feel about turning it into a safe house once this is all taken care of?” Greg asks and I seriously think about it.

“It’s rural, secluded, and would work as a safe house,” I tell him. “Yeah, I think I’d like that actually. Yes, I’m in. Thank you for the offer.”

Greg hits the table happily, and then turns to Derek. “What are your plans?”

“I don’t have any now that Dad’s on the run, honestly. I enjoy working behind the camera, but you’re right. There’s a certain enjoyment I’m finding in watching someone who’s inherently evil suffer,” Derek says, his mouth twisting to the side. “I’ve never had a problem picking up and moving, so that’s definitely not an issue for me. As long as I can be near Lennon and the guys, I would like to work with you.”

Greg fist pumps. “There are jobs that require travel, we can make it work, no matter where Lennon and the guys are. Whether or not you all return to touring is up to you, though I can only hope your pace is less strenuous than it has been.”

Roark turns off the water where he’s washing dishes. “Jordan wouldn’t allow that if we do decide to go back, as Lenny’s uncle. He was pretty uncomfortable with how much we were doing to begin with,” he says.

“Alright, so we’re all on the same game plan. I’m going to go catch a shower and some sleep, can you track that advertisement for me, Orion? If it’s something we need to move on immediately, just come find me.”

I nod, turning to go into the living room.

“Oh, and Orion?”

I turn, frowning to look over my shoulder at Greg.

“I’m really glad you’re on the team. I’d much rather have you helping us fuck shit up than go off on your own. You’re really good at covering your tracks, but everyone’s luck eventually runs out,” he says.

I blow out a breath, because I know he’s right. “I know, I appreciate it. I can’t help the urges, and I don’t pretend to,” I tell him.

Greg inclines his head. “There’s a lot of bad people that deserve your special attention soon, so that won’t be an issue. There’s also someone who popped up that I don’t know what to do with,” he sighs.

I walk back into the room, brows furrowed curiously.
