“Mmhmm,” Derek murmurs, walking behind me. “We’re going to help you take yourself back, bit by bit.”

Derek massages the shampoo into my hair and I sigh. Roark’s strong arms wrap around my back, the two of them making me feel safe. His thumbs rub up and down, somehow finding sore muscles and I sigh.

“I’m going to have you brush your teeth before you go to bed, only because I know you’ll feel better,” Roark chuckles and my cheeks heat.

“Ick, Ror, why did you kiss me?” I groan, covering my mouth now that I remember I’ve been sick.

He rolls his eyes. “I couldn’t give two fooks if you’ve been tossing your cookies, little Valkyrie. You were panicking, and it was the only way I knew to ground you. If it'll make you happy, I’ll brush my teeth too,” he chuckles.

I nod. “Yes, please,” I say primly and Derek snorts behind me.

I begin to turn to sass him, but he stops me. “I need to rinse your hair, Len,” he says, and moves me into the stream of water, which he’s warmed up.

Relaxing, I let him tip my head back. Derek is really careful not to let my face get wet, and I wonder if he knows about the water boarding. He can’t… right?

Either way, it helps me stay calm and enjoy the warm water as he rinses my hair. Soon, I’m clean, and slipping out of the shower to remove my clothes and dry off. It may seem silly that they climbed in dressed in their underwear with me, but trauma doesn’t have to make sense, especially when I was passed out when Derek carried me in.

Turning, my jaw drops as I see there are scratch marks all over Derek’s back as he walks out of the room to get dressed.

“Holy shit,” I gasp.

“You were hallucinating at one point,” Roark says with a shrug. “The fever was getting high, and withdrawing all of a sudden from the shit you were on can cause psychosis.”

“That’s awesome,” I sigh.

“It wasn’t your fault,” Derek calls out. I can hear fabric shifting as he dresses hurriedly, and then he’s bringing in clothes for me.

I wrinkle my nose at the pants. Instead, putting on panties and a longer shirt. I don’t really feel like having anything on my legs, and can’t explain why, other than pants are constricting.

Drying my hair with the towel, I scrunch out the moisture. Yawning, I take the toothbrush Roark hands me as I start to brush my own teeth, taking extra care to clean my tongue.

Spitting and washing out my mouth twice, I weave on my feet, feeling exhausted already.

“Back to bed,” Roark says with a smile, picking me up.

Curling up in his arms, I refuse to complain. I’m not a bad ass bitch today, but I can try tomorrow. For now, I’m going to hope the withdrawal effects will work their way through my system quickly, because this sucks.

“Miranda is going to hook you back up to your IV, but you look knackered, little Valkyrie. I think you’ll be asleep before she’s back in,” Roark murmurs as he slips me under the sheets.

There’s something about fresh sheets, and even though the room is dark, I sigh happily. The bathroom lights were also turned down low, and I appreciate all of it.

“Thank you for taking care of me,” I whisper, my eyes already slipped closed.

Roark brushes my hair out of my face, and I can hear the small smile in his next words. “I’ll always take care of you, baby girl, you’re my forever.”

Sighing, I swear my heart flips in happiness.

I’m loved. I’m cherished. I’m wanted.

All the things Xav tried to get me to believe are wrong.

* * *

There’shands all over me. I whimper as a hand wraps around my throat, forcing my head to hang off the bed.

“Xav promised us a good little slut, and he was right. Watch how well she takes my cock,” the man groans.

I gasp, it hurts, as my body stretches to accommodate him, but my body craves more. Why is my body betraying me?
