Biting my lip, I think. If this was Derek, Turner, or Roark, I’d ask to see their faces, but I don’t want Orion to shut down on me. Wiggling my arm out from where it’s trapped at my side, I sink my fingers into his hair.

“I like being happy,” I murmur. “I just haven’t had the chance to be recently.”

Orion growls and I shiver as his breath tickles my neck. Instead of pulling away, he holds me tighter.

“You feel good, and I don’t want you to move, even though I know Miranda is going to bust through those doors soon,” he grumbles.

I laugh again, because I can only imagine what my poor nurse thinks of me. I haven’t been the best patient.

“I remember thinking how good my pillow smelled,” I confess. “I also feel a bit better, so my fingers are crossed for a better day.”

“Thank god,” he says. “I don’t know what to do for sick people. Your fever kept getting worse and it was making me twitchy.”

“We can’t have that, can we?” I tease, hoping he catches my humor as I turn onto my back.

Orion follows me, putting his head on my chest. “I know you’re teasing me, but you’re asking for a red bottom,” he sighs.

My mouth drops as I look down on him, and then decide to go for broke. “How did you know that’s one of my favorite presents?”

He huffs out a breath in surprise. My hand is still tangled in his blond hair as Orion looks up at me in surprise. “You’re gonna be trouble, little girl, aren’t you?”

He pushes up my body until his lips are so close to mine, all I need to do is arch to reach them. My breath comes faster as his right hand runs up the exposed skin where my shirt rode up.

“I’ve never—” Orion cuts himself off as there’s a knock on the semi open door. I catch a glimpse of Miranda’s chestnut hair, her eyes decidedly averted.

Fucking awesome.

I ease myself away from Orion and he reluctantly sits up.

“Yep, she’s awake,” he says, looking down at me and winking.

He fucking winked!I take a deep breath to calm down my hormones. My skin feels warm, and I don’t think it has anything to do with my previous fever. As I sit up, I think about how I’m going to explain an elevated blood pressure, because this man has me a little hot and bothered.

Miranda walks in with a smile, looking a little apprehensive. She has a bag hanging off her arm as well.

“Good afternoon, Lennon,” she says. “How are you feeling today?”

Miranda sounds stilted, and I wonder if I upset her somehow. Biting my lip, I shrug.

“I’m not hallucinating, nauseous, or shivering, so feeling much better, thank you,” I say primly.

Orion looks at me funny, and I ignore him. I get like this when I don’t feel comfortable or am highly annoyed. I am more the former at the moment.

“Good, good, you scared everyone the last thirty-six hours,” Miranda says, relaxing slightly.

Deciding to give her the benefit of the doubt, I wait to see what she needs from me. New people make me a little twitchy I’m realizing, and I think that’s what’s setting me off.

Orion takes my hand, rubbing it gently, and I take a deep breath.

“I want to check your vitals, run some blood work, and then look at your stitches. We can have one of the guys come in while I do that, if you’d like?” she asks.

I can tell she’s trying, because it’s not typical practice to ask if the patient wants a man in the room. Looking over at Orion, I ask, “Do you think you could ask Turner to come in here, please?”

He frowns as he looks over my face. “Is this because we haven’t slept together?”

The question is so out of left field, my jaw drops in surprise. “You mean because of the stitches, and likely seeing me naked? It’s not, because you’ve seen me without clothes before. I mean…”

My cheeks heat, never imagining needing to have this conversation with Orion.
