She swallowed, heat flooding her body so that her skin was flushed with it. Her breasts were hot and heavy, the nipples pulling tight, and there was a pulse between her thighs. She wanted to kiss his beautiful curving mouth until neither of them could think or breathe. She wanted to tear off his clothes right here and now and lick every inch of his skin. She wanted to pull him inside her and feel him swell and harden, feel him take over her body...

‘Okay, then,’ she heard herself say. ‘I’ll stay for a couple of days.’

The next few days were a merry-go-round blur. A head-spinning fever dream of a hunger as deep and endless as the ocean.

It wasn’t real. They both knew that.

Maybe that was why it was easy between them—easier than it had been six years ago, when there’d been so many layers of the truth. Now there was just the two of them, in the moment. There was no future, no commitment, no expectation. They lived each minute, each hour.

They ate and drank...walked and swam and slept. And all the time they were touching, stroking, caressing, kissing...revelling in the blissful freedom of being able to slide their hands and mouths over each other’s bodies.

And she loved the island. Although it felt like several different islands throughout the day. She loved the smell of the wild mint that grew everywhere. And the way the mountains slid in and out of view between the clouds. She loved the ferns and the moss and the banks of pastel-coloured hydrangeas. Most of all she loved the sea.

Every direction she looked she could see blue—every shade from ink to glass. But there was no blue even in nature that was as beautiful as Gabriel’s eyes. And it wasn’t just his eyes that set her senses alight.

She glanced up at his face, trying to take everything in—each feature, every tiny shift of expression—wanting to remember. It was what she did every time she looked at him, and she rarely looked away. But still she feared that she would forget something, and the thought almost stopped her heart.

‘What are you thinking?’ he asked.

He was playing with her hair, running it through his hands, twisting it around his fingers and then unfurling it. Unravelling it.

Unravelling her more, she thought, heat blossoming deep inside her.

‘Nothing, really,’ she lied.

They were in bed. It was two o’clock in the afternoon. The sun was spilling across his naked body and he was so smooth and golden and gloriously male that it hurt to look at him.

‘What areyouthinking about?’ she countered as he drew her head back with a tug of his hand, lowering his mouth to the long line of her throat.

‘Me? I was just admiring the view,’ he said softly, and she felt the softness in his voice gather low in her belly.

His other hand slid over her stomach to caress the curve of her hip and bottom, his light, precise touch sending little ripples of pleasure across her skin. He lifted his head a fraction and, pulse stumbling, she stared at him, wordless and undone, held captive by the mesmerising blue glitter of his gaze, fascinated by the casual intimacy of his touch, as if all of this was just foreplay. And in a way it was...because there would always be another time.

Until there wasn’t.

But she didn’t dare think about that. She couldn’t think about the moment when she would have to wake from this dream and return to London.

‘I thought maybe we could go and look at the vineyard later,’ she said quickly.

Things were getting out of hand. She needed to keep some control.

‘Today?’ His gaze held hers, steady and unblinking. ‘It’s a bit late. Why don’t we go tomorrow?’

‘You said that yesterday.’

‘And I’ll probably say it again tomorrow.’

His gaze moved over her and he smiled then—one of those hesitant almost-smiles that seemed to flip a switch inside her.

‘And the day after that...and the day after that...’

She let him pull her closer. She wanted to be closer. Wanted him inside her again...and again and again—

A beat of need pulsed lightly across her skin. Lying here with him, she could feel her feelings growing reckless.

As if he could read her mind, he said softly, ‘We could just stay here.’

‘We could,’ she agreed.
