And now my face flushed with embarrassment at the thought of how I’d been wild for him. I had let him strip off my clothes while we’d stood outside, bend me over the hood of my own car, and fuck me right out in the open. Anyone driving by might have seen us, and I hadn’t been paying attention to the road. Maybe someone had.

I liked sex. I always had. But I had never felt this out of control before.

And knowing Jake, I was sure he liked being the person who had done that to me. I was sure that was part of the thrill of it for him—the realization that he was able to break through my defenses, that I wanted him so badly that I was willing to give him everything he asked me for, no matter how ill-advised.

I sat up, clutching the bed sheet to my chest. “Can you go get my clothes, please?”

He smirked at me, and for a moment, I was afraid he was going to refuse, but he nodded. “Whatever you say,” he told me, tugging on a pair of pants. He winked and left the room.

It only took him a moment to come back with my clothes. I looked them over with misgivings. My panties had been lying in the dirt, so I tucked them into the pocket of my pants and pulled those on.

Jake grinned at me. “Want to stay for dinner? Danny will be home soon.”

If he thought I was going to sit at the dinner table after being fucked—three times—and talk to my brother like nothing had happened, he could think again. “I should get home,” I told him.

“But we’ll do this again soon.”

I shook my head, pulling on my shirt. “We’re not doing this again.”

“You’re notstilltrying to fight it? Olivia, come on. This is a good thing. It’s good for both of us.”

“You haven’t changed. Do you know that?”

“What does that mean?”

“All you care about is what you can get out of a situation,” I told him. “And you’ve always been that way. When we were kids, you and Danny were always treating me like I didn’t matter. And you’re the same way now.”

“Is this because I made you beg for it?”

I folded my arms across my chest, trying to ignore the fact that he was still topless. “That’s part of it.”

“What else?”

“Did you only take the job on the movie so you could push Branches 2.0 on Michael Sanders?”

I expected him to deny it. Which I guess went to show that, in spite of everything, I still didn’t quite have the measure of him.

He shrugged. “I don’t see what the problem with that is.”

“You don’t? You’ve been humiliating me on the job, Jake. Acting like your app is what’s most important. Bugging Michael about it when he’s obviously trying to get work done.”

“That’s how you sell things,” Jake said. “You have to bother people who don’t want to be bothered. It’s the only way to do it.”

“You see what I mean? This is what you do. You push whateveryouwant on people without thinking about what’s best for them. You’re going to ruin my career if you keep annoying the first director who’s ever given me a chance.”

“Don’t be so dramatic. There’s no reason we can’t both get something out of this arrangement,” Jake said. “You get your movie gig, and I get to promote the app. What’s the problem with that?”

Olivia shook her head. “This is exactly what I mean,” she said. “You’re always thinking about what you can get. What’s in it for you. And that’s exactly what you were doing when you brought me back here.”

“You’re trying to tell me that was only about me? That there was nothing in it for you? That’s bullshit, Olivia. You had a good time.”

“I’m not saying I didn’t,” she said. “But we’re not doing it again.”

“Yeah, well, you’ve said that before.”

“I mean it this time. I don’t want any more of you.”

“You’ll change your mind. There’s no reason this arrangement can’t include a bit of fun on the side, Olivia.”
