“If you’re pregnant, shouldn’t you be talking about that?”

“Calm down, Danny,” I said. “We’ve had an intense couple of days. We just got home. Let us sort ourselves out. And you should be celebrating, by the way. You’re going to be an uncle.”

For a moment, I worried he might punch me. I bent my knees a little, anticipating the blow, ready for the fight that would follow, ready to move both of us away from Olivia so that she wouldn’t get hurt.

And then Danny laughed.

“You’re right!” he said. “An uncle. Wow.”

“Uncle Danny,” Olivia said.

“And I guess we’ll be brothers,” he said to me. “Once you marry her, I mean.”

I rolled my eyes. “Relax about it, dude.”

The idea had gotten its hooks into me, though. I wanted to marry her. Danny was right; it was the appropriate course of action, and in addition, I enjoyed the thought of Olivia and I being permanently united and openly announcing our love for one another in front of everyone we cared about.

I wanted it—but I wouldn’t say so right now, in front of Danny. I would wait until Olivia and I were alone. Then I would ask her.

“Marry me,” I whispered.

I’d been going down on her for the past ten minutes, and I knew she was aroused beyond the point of all reason—she’d soaked the sheets, and I could feel her clit throbbing against my tongue when I sucked her. I could probably have made her come with just a few more touches, but now I was propped up on my elbows between her legs, looking at her.

She opened her eyes and stared down at me. “What, or else you won’t finish what you’re doing?”

I laughed. “What if I said yes? That I wouldn’t make you come until you agreed to marry me?”

“Then you’d be an asshole.”

“But what would you say?”

“You know I’d say yes,” she groaned. “You know you could make me agree to anything to get your mouth back on me.”

“What if I said I wanted you to let me name the baby?”

“Whatever you want.”

“What if I said I wanted you to let me fuck you in the middle of Times Square?”

“I might let you do that anyway. That sounds fucking hot as hell.”

“We’d get arrested.”

“Are you saying it wouldn’t be worth it?” She hooked her knee around the back of my neck and tried to pull my mouth back down to her, but I resisted.

“Marry me,” I repeated.

“You always have to have your own way.”

“I do, I really do. Marry me.”

“Don’t be so bossy!”

“Then say yes.”

“Finish what you’re doing first, Jake. I can’t think clearly when you’ve got me like this.”

It was true. She was shaking like a live wire, and the scent of her body made me so hard it hurt.
