“So far, yes, there is no reason for him to talk to me the way he has.”

“Well, you can always fill out the survey at the end of your stay. And if for some reason, you find the resort is not for you, we will be happy to refund half of your costs for an early check out.”

“I’m not checking out early,” Hunter muttered. “I just want to be treated with respect.”

“Of course, sir, we pride ourselves on our customer service here at The Gilded Peak, but safety and security are our number one priority, and we take more pride in providing a place where women can feel safe. If a guest, especially a male guest, has potential to cause them issues, we will try to nip the problem in the bud early on rather than wait for it to turn into a larger problem. I hope you understand.”

“I am not a threat,” Hunter said.

Reed and I shared a look. So far, it was just vibes and the strange coincidence of him being at the resort the same time as his coworker. We had nothing concrete that would prove that hewasa threat to her, though I didn’t need proof to kick him out. I didn’t like the guy or the way he was looking at Snow earlier.

“Well then, it appears we won’t have a problem,” Reed said with a smile. “We just ask that you respect the privacy of our other guests and give them their space unless they specifically invite you back into their rooms. Consent is key here, and we take it very seriously—”

“I wasn’t doing anything wrong.”

Sure, buddy. Maybe you were just talking. But I saw the way you had hovered over her.My protective instincts kicked in the minute I saw the video, which is why I hustled over to her. The situation reminded me of my younger sister, Claire. And Hunter reminded me of the ex that I’d had to beat the shit out of in order to protect her.

And I’d do it again in a heartbeat for Snow if I had to.

My gaze narrowed on Hunter, and he stared back at me with pure hate. I bet he thought he was the alpha male back home and maybe he was the big guy in most circles, but not here. Not next to me.

Reed kept talking, though I had tuned him out. My fists balled at my side and it felt like fire was running through my veins. Something about Hunter had set me off. He reminded me too much of Neil. “Well then, I think we’re good here,” Reed said, his tone still cheerful. I’m not sure how he did it, but sometimes I envied his ability to keep cool.

Sometimes.

I moved my boot away and Hunter slammed the door in our faces. Reed let out a sigh and I thought he might scold me for causing trouble.

Instead, he said, “He’s a fucking prick,” which surprised me. I rarely heard Reed curse anyone, especially a guest.

“Right? I’m ready to kick his ass out now,” I said.

“Well, if we kick everyone out that we don’t like, we wouldn’t have much of a business, would we?” Reed asked. He patted me on the back before continuing back to the main building.

I was headed there as well, so I walked along with him.

“You didn’t see the way he towered over her earlier,” I said. “I didn’t need words to know he was intimidating her, the poor girl was clearly scared.”

“Yeah, he was following her around this morning too, at check in and during the tour, but hopefully you scared the shit out of him enough that he’ll behave and leave her alone.”

“Hopefully.” I cracked my knuckles for emphasis.

“One of the many reasons we love having you on staff here, Gage.” Reed laughed as we stepped into the building. He headed to the front as I headed to the back toward security.

Before joining the guys at the resort, I had run my own security firm, working with mostly celebrities, politicians, diplomats, and other high-profile people. We had even ran royalty detail at one point. I had operated in countries that were hostile to Americans, where terrorism was a daily threat. If Hunter Wilde thought he was going to get away with anything at the resort, well, he had another thing coming.

“One margarita and a cosmo coming up,” I said as I started making drinks for the two women sitting before me. They appeared to be around forty-five to fifty, maybe a bit older. It was sometimes hard to tell when they had work done, and these two ladies, like many that we served, had clearly paid for their looks.

The blonde looked me up and down and smiled at her friend. “What’s your name, handsome?”

“Jason,” I said.

“Can we be your friends?” The brunette asked, batting her eyelashes at me.

“Sure, I’m friends with everyone,” I said, finishing up the margarita and placing it in front of the blonde.
