“Bash is writing a book?” Doc asked.

I opened my mouth, but then closed it again with a snicker. “I haven’t really talked about it with anyone else,” I told her.

“Oh crap, I’m sorry,” she said, covering her mouth. “My bad.”

“It’s okay,” I said.

“What is the book about?” Anthony asked.

“Yeah, what’s this book about?” Doc echoed.

Snow mouthed that she was sorry again. I hadn’t talked to them about it because it was hard to explain, especially to other men. How do I explain that I’m writing a gothic romance?

“It’s complicated, and I haven’t written much yet.”

“I want to read it, bro,” Doc said. “I think that’s awesome. I’ve always wanted to write a book too.”

“What about?” Anthony asked.

Doc shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t have any ideas. Probably a medical drama since that’s what I know. That’s what they say, right, write what you know?”

“Well if that’s the case, I guess I am only allowed to write about the law, or maybe spreadsheets and numbers,” Anthony joked. “Not sure anyone wants to read that. But yeah, man, it’s awesome you’re writing a book, I bet you have a lot of interesting stories to pull from.”

“Thanks, guys,” I said. I’m not sure why it had taken me so long to talk about my book with them. I should have known they’d be cool about it, our group was not like most men. It’s one of the reasons we got along so well and why we were able to successfully create and run a business together. It’s also why I didn’t feel threatened when it came to sharing Snow with them. I knew that there was no competition there.

Even Gage threw in an, “That’s cool, man,” which was very nice coming from him. He hadn’t said much all evening, which wasn’t unusual. It was nice getting their support though.

Snow covered her mouth and tried to hide a big yawn, but it was obvious that she was indeed exhausted.

I placed a kiss on the back of her hand and said, “We’re going to let you get some sleep. We have plenty of time to spend together ahead of us.”

“Here’s hoping.” Snow stretched out her legs and stood up—our cue to leave. “But no, I don’t plan on running off so quickly this time.”

“Good,” I said, leaning forward to kiss her.

We all kissed her on the lips before we left. I don’t know what it was about her, but she had all of us smitten.

It’s a good thing we knew how to share.

“What are your thoughts about the lawsuit?” Reed asked, calling me into a meeting, just the two of us. After the meeting with Hunter and his lawyer, I had a lot of time to think about what was said.

Rubbing my temples and closing my eyes to ease the ache in my head, I leaned back in my chair and sighed. “To be honest, I think we should try to negotiate a lower settlement and take it.”

“You think we should pay him off? You know Gage didn’t do what that shitbag is claiming,” Reed said.

I opened my eyes and stared at Reed. I knew he and Gage were close, he was closer to Gage than any of us. But even still, I knew Gage wasn’t capable of what Hunter was accusing him of.

“If they dig into his record you know what they’ll find, and that won’t look good for Gage.”

“But he didn’t do it,” Reed said.

“We know that, but we need proof, Reed. Do you really want to risk this resort’s reputation, our entire business, on the whim of a judge and a shady lawyer?”

Reed leaned back in his chair, and this time it was his turn to sigh.
