“I can say the same for you.” I leaned forward, lifting her chin with my hand until she was staring into my eyes again. I kissed her sweet lips, and she pressed her body into me. For a second, I forgot all about the pool as I ran my hands down her amazing curves. As I was about to slip my hand between her thighs, Snow grabbed it and pulled away from the kiss.

“I’m a bit tired and still not feeling that great,” she said, her voice softer than usual. “Not that I don’t want to, of course, I just—”

Pressing my fingers to her lips, I silenced her with a “Shh… you never have to explain yourself to me. You said no, and I respect that. But I do have to say something.”

“What’s that?” she asked.

“Last one in the pool is a rotten egg.” I made a beeline for the pool and jumped in before she even knew what was happening. She walked to the edge and stared down at me, letting out a good ‘ole belly laugh.

“That wasn’t fair…”

“Next time, I’ll give you a head start,” I said with a wink.

She lowered herself into the pool and splashed me. “That’s for cheating.”

“Fair enough,” I said, but when she let her guard down, I splashed her back.

“Oh, it’s on now!” she called out as she dove under the water. She grabbed my legs but couldn’t pull me under. She popped up and we were both laughing from her failed attempt.

I was glad she was feeling better. She seemed more like herself. And we didn’t have to have sex to enjoy each other’s company. I was already feeling better myself too.

“How’s my Mr. Petey?” I cooed into my phone as Rosie held hers toward my cat. “Sweet Petey boy, mama misses you so much.”

He looked at the phone, but otherwise seemed unbothered by my voice or seeing me on the screen. When he started taking a bath, Rosie pulled the phone away.

“So yeah, as you can see, he’s doing very well. I’ve been giving lots of treats but he still glares at me a lot,” she said with a laugh.

“Thank you so much for watching him for me,” I said. “God, I miss that little guy. And I miss you too, of course.”

“Don’t you dare think about coming back yet, you need this,” Rosie said. “And you need time with your guys.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m loving every second with them and having so much fun, they’re all so amazing. It still feels too good to be true, you know?”

“I know but give it time. Well, not too much time since you have less than nine months, but you know what I’m saying.”

“I understand,” I said with a chuckle.

My phone buzzed alerting me that I had received an email to my professional inbox. The sender popped up and my heart sank. I sighed heavily.

“What is it?” Rosie asked.

“Hilda just sent me an email.”

“What does she want?” Rosie asked with an annoyed tone.

“I’m not sure, but knowing my stepmom, it can’t be good. Can you give me a second, I’ll read it now.”

“Go for it,” Rosie said.

I grabbed my laptop and opened it, pulling up my email.

“What the…” I muttered to myself.

“What does it say?”
