“Dani. Don’t talk about your parents when I have my cock buried inside you,” I tell her.

“Okay.”

Sitting up on my knees, I take hold of her wrists and pin them to the bed. Her legs are still locked around my waist. I start fucking her faster, increasing my pace while hitting home harder and harder with each thrust. Dani’s head rolls from side to side.

“Oh shit! Fuck! Alistair, it’s too much!” she screams out.

“It’s not. Come for me, little girl. Come all over my cock again. I fucking need it,” I tell her. And like the good little girl she is, she comes on command. Fucking drenching me. I pull out of her. Fisting my cock, I tug a few times and come all over her stomach. “We really need to get on birth control. I want to be able to come inside you,” I whisper against her ear.

“Uh-huh…” she mumbles in reply.

“You doing okay down there?” I ask her.

“Fine, just give me five minutes,” she says with her eyes closed.

“Hmm, now who can’t keep up with who?” I throw back at her.

I walk into the bathroom, find a washcloth, and wet it with warm water. When I turn back towards the bedroom, I find Dani passed out on the bed. I wipe her stomach and throw the washcloth on the floor. Then I adjust her, so that her head’s on the pillow, and pull the covers up before I make my way to the kitchen and grab a glass of water. As I place the glass on her bedside table, I take a moment to stare down at her.

She really is the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen. And for the first time in a week, I feel at peace. I climb into bed behind Dani, pull her back up against my chest, and wrap my arms around her waist. I’ve barely slept since that day in my office. And now, as I close my eyes with the smell of her hair filling my nostrils, I feel like everything is finally right in my world.

TWENTY-THREE

“This is good.” Alistair says.

We’re sitting at my little dining table surrounded by a rainbow of flowers. I made French toast for breakfast, and it’s really not as appetising as he’s making it out to be. I know. I ate it too. But I appreciate his praise.

“Thank you.” I tuck my hair behind my ear. “At what point were you planning on stopping with the flowers?” I ask him.

“When my bank account ran dry and I couldn’t afford to buy them anymore. Then I was planning on raiding people’s gardens and making my own bouquets.”

“You rent yourself out for over three grand an hour. I hardly think your bank account is going to suffer over some flowers.” I laugh.

“I don’t rent myself out. I clock billable hours,” he corrects me.

“Same thing,” I say.

“Have you thought about going to law school?” he questions after a moment of silence. “You know you’d make a great lawyer.”

“I have thought about it. But I’m not sure I want that anymore. I used to. But I kinda like the job I had. I’m going to start searching for a new paralegal position today,” I tell him.

“Youhavea job, Dani. You’re not looking for another one. Besides, you’re already working at the best firm in Melbourne. Where else are you going to go?” he says with a smug smile.

“Anywhere you’re not,” I counter.

“Why? I thought we were good.” His eyebrows knit together and I can see his rising panic.

“We are. But, really, how long will it last if we work together? I think it might be better if we just keep our professional lives separate and see each other a couple of nights a week like a normal exclusive couple.”

“Or, here’s another scenario. You keep working at the firm, and we keep seeing each other every fucking night of the week. I’m not going anymore nights without you in my bed,” he says.

“Don’t you think we should slow this roll a little?” I ask.

“Slow this roll? No. I don’t.”

“Care to expand on why not?” I press.

“Because I like you. A lot. And you like me. A lot. Why would weslow the rollwhen we both want this?”
