“I’ll make sure it’s safe. You just tell me what you want to do.”

“Can we go to eat and shopping?” I chuckle.

“If that’s what you want to do, yes.”

“Then I want to go. I’m tired of being stuck in this house,” she tells me. I know there’s a threat, and I know her safety means everything to me, but I also know she’s been going stir-crazy in this house, and I don’t blame her.

“I’ll make some calls,” I tell her before pulling away from her and grabbing my cell. I call who I need to call and get extra security set up and also have the local restaurant checked before we arrive. When everything is in place, I grab Delaney’s hand and lead her to the waiting car.

She climbs in with a smile, and I couldn’t be happier. She looks happy, and that’s all that really matters to me. I want her happy.

I reach over and grab her hand, looking her in the eyes.

“You’re happy.”

“Of course I am. I love you, Luka.” I nod my head, unsure of how to say it back. Uncertain I can say it back. But she has to know I feel everything for her.

Chapter 22

Things have been quiet the last few months. As time slowly ticks by, Delaney’s belly gets bigger, and I couldn’t be happier. This is what I wanted, and now I’m going to have it.

But with time comes worry. And like Delaney, I am worried. Her father has been silent, too silent. I haven’t heard from him, nor has he tried anything. I know it’s coming. I can feel it in my bones, but I haven’t been sitting around waiting either. I’ve been making plans of my own.

“You sure about this?”

“Aren’t you?” I ask Margetti.

“I like the idea of it all,” he confirms.

“Then what’s the problem?” I ask as I take a drink from my glass as we sit in the restaurant chatting about the future and what to do about Costa.

“You told her you wouldn’t kill him.”

“I said I wouldn’t, not that you wouldn’t.” He chuckles now and picks up his glass, taking a drink.

“I see what you’re doing, Luka.”

“We split his empire, half and half. That knocks one family out of the loop. One less family we have to contend with. It makes sense,” I tell him as I watch him for a reaction.

“It does make sense in the end, but getting to him is the issue.”

“That’s not an issue. He stays vulnerable in his home. We already know the layout, and I can get into his security systems. It’s an easy hit,” I tell him.

“And you’ll be there?”

“Of course, I’ll be there. I don’t want to miss his demise.” Margetti runs his hand through his hair before he sighs.

“You’re sure you want to do this? It is your wife’s father.”

“I’m dead sure I want to do this. Costa traded her. He didn’t want her to begin with,” I remind him of why we’re married now.

“I see. Well, then, I’m in. I like the idea of not having to contend with him.”

“It makes sense for us. We’ll be moving on the casino soon, and we won’t have to deal with him in the middle of it.”

“You still want to move on the casino?” he asks.

“Yes, I do. I think it’ll be a valuable asset, and it will all be legal.”
