Liath shook his head.

“I still don’t know why my magic affects you as it does, but my guess is because your own magic will be more pleasure based when you find it.”

“But how will I find it?” I asked. We had reached the Palace by now—it had taken a much shorter time to get back than it had to find the Pool of Seeing in the first place.

“You’ll see,” Liath said mysteriously. “Let’s go inside and get you nice and warm. Then we can start your first lesson.”

“All right…there.” Liath put a crystal vase with a single dead rose on the nightstand beside the bed. It was desiccated, its petals as thin and crispy as onion skin. They might have once been fresh and red but now they were the color of old, dried blood.

“All right, what? What do you expect me to do?” I asked blankly. We were sitting on the bed together having removed our boots and cloaks—Liath had said we needed to be comfortable. But I still had no idea what he wanted me to do. I was simply leaning against his side—which seemed natural after the way he had carried me home. I liked the feeling of his big, warm body against mine and the warm scent of his skin made me feel safe.

“I expect you to bring the rose back to life—to use your magic to breathe life into it and make it green and blooming again,” he said, as though it was the easiest thing in the world.

“But…I can’t,” I protested. “I don’t know how to even begin.”

“Don’t go looking for the power outside yourself to start with,” Liath lectured. “I know that’s probably what every tutor you ever had told you to do.”

“Yes, that’s true,” I admitted. “They all told me to reach out and take power from the natural world around me. But if I can’t do that, where will I get power?”

“From inside yourself, little bird…when you pleasure yourself,” he murmured.

“Pleasure myself?” I looked at him with wide eyes. “But…I can’t do that! I wouldn’t even know where to start.”

“You start by touching yourself—making yourself feel good,” Liath said patiently. “Look, do you want me to show you?”

I bit my lip—what would I see if I said yes? But I wanted to know if he was right—wanted to see if I really did have any magic in me at all. And they say that you first learn by watching. So I nodded.

“Yes,” I said. “Show me.”

“All right.” He had his left arm around me as we sat on the bed, so he reached down and unfastened his trousers with his right hand.

My eyes got wide as I saw him open them and reveal a perfectly enormous shaft.

“Wait—what are you doing?” I exclaimed, staring at him wide-eyed.

“Showing you how to use pleasure to gather power and magic,” Liath said matter-of-factly. “I’m sorry if it shocks you to see my shaft, but you were going to have to see it eventually anyway, little bird. We are married, you know,” he reminded me.

“I know,” I said rather faintly. “I’ve just never seen…um, I mean…aside from what the Pool showed us today, I haven’t seen any males, er, unclothed.”

“I know you’re innocent,” he murmured. “Which is why we’re going to take things slow. In fact, I’ll make you a promise right now—I won’t take you until you beg me to.”

“You…you won’t?” I looked up at him in surprise. “But we’re married. You could…could do whatever you wanted with me any time.”

“But I won’t,” Liath said firmly. “Like I said, not until you want it so badly you beg me. Besides, we need to bring you along very slowly—first to find your magic and then to build it and help you master it. Now watch.”

“Er…what am I watching?” I asked, but my eyes were already glued to his big hand curled loosely around his shaft. It wasn’t like the goblin’s shaft in the awful scene the Pool of Seeing had showed us. It wasn’t warty or green or crooked. (Did I mention the goblin’s shaft had a strange bend in it? Because it did.)

Instead, Liath’s shaft was long and straight and capped with a broad, mushroom shaped head. It was also extremely large, however, and I wondered how he could ever fit it into a female’s sex. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about that for the foreseeable future, since he had promised not to take me until I “begged” him and there was no way I was about to start begging to be split in two by the huge thing between his legs.

“Watch me and watch the rose,” Liath told me, answering my question. “Now, my own power works best with blood—I’m a warrior and I generate a hell of a lot more pain than pleasure. But I can use pleasure as well when I need to,” he added.
