Ten minutes later, all three of them are covered from head to toe in mud, and when Jax whispers in her ear and her gaze snaps to me with an adorable evil grin, I realize I’m fucked.

Shit. There’s no way I’m getting out of this unscathed.

She races toward me, and I have no choice but to welcome her right into my arms. She launches through the air, and I catch the little she-devil as she bursts with laughter, covering me in mud, making sure to use my shirt as a mop to wipe off her face.

“Thanks, kid,” I grunt as I put her down on the grass and get started stripping her out of her muddy clothes.

Jax and Logan do the same while Cass and Elle start swooning over their men, though, it doesn’t go unnoticed when Gigi’s eyes begin to stray their way, with a light flush on her cheeks. I grin to myself as I grab the packet of baby wipes and get started cleaning up this kid, wondering if Bri brought spare clothes for the twins. They’re roughly the same size.

My best friend, Tom, shows up shortly after, and Georgie loses her tiny mind, running up to him, and throwing herself in his arms. I introduce him to Gigi, and I can instantly tell that he’s on edge about her. It wouldn’t be clear to Gigi, but it’s certainly clear to me. I see it all over his face and make a mental note to talk with him about it later because now really isn’t the time.

Though, I can’t for the life of me work out what it is he doesn’t like. She’s pretty much perfect. She’s beautiful, she’s kind, she’s friendly, not to mention, she’s responsible for saving Georgie’s life. I have no idea why he’s acting this way, and what’s more, I can’t figure out why the hell I care so much.

We get lunch done and out of the way before I turn and face Gigi with a wide smirk, knowing damn well she’s been avoiding this all morning. “Alright, Gigi, you’re up,” I grin and watch with undeniable pleasure as her face falls and she promptly loses her mind.

Chapter 8

GIGI

“You’re kidding, right?” I question as I look at Sean, my mouth hanging wide open. “Like hell. I’m not getting on that death trap.”

Sean begins stalking me, and I realize all that fun I’ve been having today is well and truly over.

I’ve been having such a great day so far, and now Sean is about to ruin it. I didn’t realize just how good it was going to be hanging out with a bunch of strangers, but now that I’m here, I certainly don’t regret it. The only downfall is when Sean’s friend showed up. He seems like a bit of a buzzkill.

He arches a brow in challenge. “You can either do it yourself, or I’ll be forced to take a page out of Logan’s book and do it for you.”

I cringe as I look over at the beast of a dirt bike. The thing looks scary as hell, but if Georgie can figure out a four-wheeler, then surely I can do this, right? “Are you sure? I mean, I’m fine just sitting here and watching.”

“Nope, sorry, Gigi. You’re going to learn to ride a dirt bike today, whether you like it or not.”

“Damn it,” I groan as I get up, my hands starting to shake.

I stand next to the stupid dirt bike, and being this close, I realize the damn thing is practically bigger than me. Sean joins me and starts going over all the basics I’ll need to know. “Can you drive a stick?” he questions as I get completely overwhelmed by his explanation.

“Do I look like the kind of girl who knows how to drive a stick?” I grin.

He gives me a once-over, clearly having his answer. “Well, that explains a lot,” he teases before giving me a crash course on the functions of a clutch and why I need one.

“I think I’ve got it,” I tell him after his third explanation of the gears. I mean, if I can learn the names of complicated medications, then surely I can get the hang of this.

“Alright, get on,” he says as he holds the bike still.

My stomach clenches with nerves, and I look at the bike like it’s some kind of challenge. Doing my best to climb on the damn thing, I hold onto his big shoulder to balance and am barely able to touch the ground with my tippy toes.

“Are you sure this is safe?” I question as he grabs a helmet and pulls it down over my head, making sure to smack the top of it for good luck. And honestly, I need all the luck in the world.

“Probably not,” he grins before kickstarting the dirt bike.
