While he was gone, I propped myself up with the pillows and took in my surroundings. Like the room we’d just come from, it had dark wood paneling and sleek, expensive furnishings. But there were a few items dotted around the room—a touristy San Francisco mug, a stack of books, a dark red throw blanket over an armchair—that made it seem a lot warmer than his totally impersonal office.

When he returned with my clothes and messenger bag, I asked, “How often do you spend the night here?”

“It used to be about twice a week. There’s a shower, and I keep a few suits here, so it made more sense than going home when I was working late. But that changed a few weeks ago.”

“Why did it change?”

He grinned and told me, “One afternoon when I was coming back from an appointment, I literally ran into an absolutely beautiful man with dark hair, who was on his way to work at the restaurant across the street. I had dinner there that night, and then I kept going back. That put an end to most of my late nights in the office.”

“You mean me?”

“Of course.”

“And we ran into each other?” He nodded, and I admitted, “I don’t remember.”

“I know. It was two seconds. But you made an impression, even in that short amount of time.”

That was surprising, but it felt good, too. I was also glad to know I’d made a positive impact on Aleksei by cutting down on his ridiculously long workdays.

As he placed my things on the armchair, I said, “Thanks for getting my stuff. Did you clean the ass print off the desk and throw away the note about coming?”

He grinned at me. “Yes, I did. There’s nothing to alert my staff that anything went on here tonight.” Aleksei sat down on the edge of the bed and brushed my curls out of my eyes.

“That reminds me. Will I have to do a walk of shame past your employees in the morning?”

“No. There’s a back exit that leads to the elevators.”

“This is quite the swinging bachelor pad,” I teased. “You could get up to all sorts of debauchery back here, and your staff would be none the wiser.”

“I’m pretty sure the man who occupied this office before me built the suite so he could cheat on his wife during business hours. That’s my theory, anyway. I don’t know why else he’d include a private entrance.”

“You might be right.”

He kissed my forehead before getting up and telling me, “I’ll bring you something to sleep in, and then I’m going to change.” He stepped into an alcove with shelves and a clothing rack and brought me a white T-shirt, along with a couple of clothes hangers. “These are for your suit.”

“Thanks. You really think of everything.”

“I try.”

While he was in the bathroom, I put on my briefs and the T-shirt. Predictably, it was way too big for me, but it was also soft and comfortable. Then I carefully hung up my suit and shirt. I really didn’t want to look like a mess when I was cutting through that big, fancy ground floor lobby in the morning.

A few minutes later, he returned smelling like toothpaste and dressed in gray sweat pants and a T-shirt. “I left a new toothbrush by the bathroom sink,” he told me. “Is there anything else you need?”

“I’m all set, and I’ll be right back.”

After I took a turn in the bathroom, I returned to find him sitting up in bed with his glasses on and a book in his hands. So sexy.

He set both aside when I slid under the covers. As we curled up together, I said, “I feel guilty, because I came tonight and you didn’t.”

“Please don’t feel bad. That was incredible, and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

“But it should have been your turn next, if I hadn’t been so out of it afterwards.”

“This is about so much more than just having an orgasm,” he said. “If that was all I cared about, I could just jerk off without you. But it’s about the intimacy, like we were saying before, and what we did earlier was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.”

“Same here.”

“Did you enjoy it?”

“God, yes. I don’t know when I’ve ever come that hard. It completely turned me to jelly.”

Aleksei sounded relieved. “Okay, good. I was worried you’d feel like you weren’t getting enough attention during my call.”

“Not at all. In fact, I was impressed by your multitasking skills. I remember thinking that at one point, when you were toying with me and answering a question. I liked the way you made me wait before letting me come, too. It showed you were in charge, and it helped make that orgasm super intense.”

I pressed my hand to my mouth to cover a yawn, and he said, “It’s late, and we should get some sleep.”
