Eventually, I choose the best rated recipe and climb out of the Lamborghini. Only two hours until I go pick Madison up, so I need to hurry. It’s been so long since I was excited about a date, and my heart’s racing as I speed walk through the parking lot.

It’s been even longer since I had someone come to my house for that date.

I look in the rearview mirror one last time to check my hair and make sure I don’t look like I’ve been racing around. My hands are shaking as I finally open the door and climb the stairs to the third floor of her apartment building. As I go to knock, the door swings open and a pretty woman with long blond hair grins at me.

“Emery Brooks. Madison didn’t tell me you were hotter in person than your pictures on the internet.”

I frown. I’d expected Madison to open the door. She yells from another room, “Is he here?”

“It’s your gentleman suitor,” she shouts back and grins as she steps aside.

“Tessa, I’m going to kill you,” Madison says as she steps into the living room and adjusts her dress. I’ve seen her in a lot of different clothes. Professional. Skirtless. In lounge clothes.

I haven’t ever seen her like this. Hell, I didn’t know she had it in her. Slutty and classy at the same time, Madison is a forest fire. The low-cut neckline teases her cleavage, and the middle hugs her waist. It’s been a long time since I wanted to rip someone’s clothes off this much.

Tessa gives Madison a smirk. “What? I know you’re going on the date, but a girl has to remind people she’s still in the market. Maybe your gentleman caller knows a billionaire or two that might be single, and I’m not nearly as sassy as you.”

Madison huffs and grabs her purse. I say, “Sadly, all the billionaires I know are rather attached to their bachelor status. Plus, I happen to enjoy Madison’s sass.”

Tessa grins and walks toward one of the bedroom doors. She waves to us as she continues to walk away. “Remember not to do anything I wouldn’t do.”

“So, do whatever I want?” Madison mutters under her breath. I give her a grin as she leads us out of the apartment, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so relieved to leave a woman’s apartment. She can’t make an excuse for not going now. When we get to my car, she says, “Huh. Nice ride.”

“What did you expect me to show up in?” I ask as I climb into the driver’s seat.

“A limo like most of the elite. What kind of self-respecting billionaire drives himself when he can pay someone else?”

I put the car in reverse and look behind me, glad that she’s here treating me just like she did the night we drank together. “The kind that enjoys driving. What’s the point of owning a dozen cars if I never drive them?”

She puts her hands in her lap. “So, what did you decide to cook tonight? Let’s see if your powers of intuition let you find another of my favorite things.”

“What happens if I did? Do I get a prize? Maybe the chance to play spin the bottle or some strip poker?”

She leans back, a grin on her face. “You really are just a teenaged boy, aren’t you, Emery?”

“Teenaged boys don’t know that your favorite dish is crab manicotti, Madison.”

She jerks forward and gives me a sideways glance. “How did you know?”

“Maybe I’m just your book boyfriend come to life, Miss Carter.”

She laughs, leaning back in her seat. “So you finally watched my videos. I guess that makes sense. I’ve probably divulged nearly all my secrets on ChitChat, so you shouldn’t have any problems guessing all my favorites.”

“That’s not true at all. I had to read Beauty and the Beast a few times to find out the important things, and I still don’t know whether your bra and panties match, so even after all my research, you remain mysterious.”

She’s grinning even wider than ever before. “Tell me, what are the important things you learned about me during your research?”

I take my eyes off the road for a moment to catch her gaze. Her eyes are gorgeous when she’s smiling. It doesn’t seem to happen that often, but when it does, they dance, and they make me want to dance alongside.

“To begin with, you obviously don’t like men who shave. And you want them to leave you alone to read all day. I almost understand those, but the kicker that bothers me is that you obviously wish you wore giant ball gowns all the time. Have you tried to do anything in a ball gown?”

She blinks. “That’s not…”

I laugh, cutting her off. “I’m just playing, Madison!”

Madison squints at me, and I can tell that she doesn’t completely believe me. “If I really believed that, then I’d have to bow out of this whole thing since I’m no prince, and I certainly couldn’t leave you alone in a library all day.”
